MSI Shows Off WindPad 100 Tablet PC
MSI's entry to the reinvigorated tablet PC market is the WindPad 100, which gets showcased at the IFA event in Berlin. Unlike tablets such as the Apple iPad, the MSI WindPad 100 is based on the Intel x86 architecture, running Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. The tablet features a multi-touchscreen 10.1" display, and is loaded with connectors in all sides, such as USB 2.0, an SDHC-compatible card reader, front-facing 1.3 megapixel webcam and HDMI to connect to displays and projectors.
Under its hood is a second-generation Intel Atom Z530 processor, 2 GB of DDR3 memory, and possible HDD/SSD options for storage. Connectivity for the tablet includes USB 2.0, 3G HSDPA, and WiFi b/g/n, though it can be expanded by an optional dock, which lets you convert the tablet to a desktop PC. The dock provides USB 2.0, audio expansion, gigabit Ethernet, D-Sub and HDMI display outputs, apart from doubling up as the tablet's battery-charging cradle.

Nexus Intros FLC-3000 R2 CPU Cooler
Nexus unveiled an updated design to its FLC-3000 CPU cooler that was launched about three years ago, the FLC-3000 R2. The new version features support for the latest socket types, and makes use of a CPU base with direct-touch heatpipes. The cooler measures 128 x 105 x 119 mm, weighing 450 g, its design consists of a direct-touch heatpipe CPU base from which four 6 mm copper heatpipes convey heat to an aluminum fin array that propagates at an angle of roughly 45°. A 92 mm PWM-controlled, orange LED-lit fan is nested inside the array, which spins at speeds of 900 to 2,500 rpm, with a maximum noise output of 24 dBA. All current socket types are supported, including LGA1366, LGA1156, AM3/AM2+, and LGA775. It is expected to be priced at around $40.

(PR) Rambus and NVIDIA Sign Patent License Agreement
Rambus Inc., one of the world's premier technology licensing companies, and NVIDIA, the worldwide leader in visual computing, today announced they have signed a patent license agreement related to certain memory controllers.
Under the agreement, Rambus has granted NVIDIA a patent license for certain memory controllers at a 1 percent royalty rate for SDR memory controllers and a 2 percent royalty rate for other memory controllers, including DDR, DDR2, DDR3, LPDDR, LPDDR2, GDDR2, GDDR3, GDDR4, and portions of GDDR5 memory controllers. NVIDIA has granted no licenses to Rambus.

(PR) NVIDIA Reports Financial Results for Second Quarter Fiscal 2011
NVIDIA reported revenue of $811.2 million for the second quarter of fiscal 2011 ended Aug. 1, 2010, down 19.0 percent from the prior quarter and up 4.5 percent from $776.5 million from the same period a year earlier.
On a GAAP basis, the company recorded a net loss of $141.0 million, or $0.25 per share, compared with net income of $137.6 million, or $0.23 per diluted share, in the previous quarter and a net loss of $105.3 million, or $0.19 per share, in the same period a year earlier. GAAP gross margin was 16.6 percent compared with 45.6 percent in the previous quarter and 20.2 percent in the same period a year earlier.
