IM Flash Technologies starts sampling 25nm 3-bit-per-cell :: Posted by THRASHER2
One year has passed since IM Flash Technologies announced the development of 3-bit-per-cell (3bpc) MLC NAND Flash on 34nm technology, and today the joint venture between Intel and Micron has stepped up to say it has begun sampling 3bpc chips made using the 25nm process.
The advanced 3-bit-per-cell (aka triple-level cell or TLC) NAND in question has a 64Gb (8GB) capacity, is the smallest and most dense NAND device made to date, and is set to be used for USB drives, SD memory cards and consumer electronics.
"With January's introduction of the industry's smallest die size at 25nm, quickly followed by the move to 3-bit-per-cell on 25nm, we continue to gain momentum and offer customers a compelling set of leadership products," said Tom Rampone, Intel vice president and general manager of Intel NAND Solutions Group. "Intel plans to use the design and manufacturing leadership of IMFT to deliver higher-density, cost-competitive products to our customers based on the new 8GB TLC 25nm NAND device."
IM Flash Technologies plans to start mass production of 25nm TLC NAND by the end of this year.

ASUS designs AMD mini-board :: Posted by THRASHER2
Mini ITX has Ontario inside
Asus has revealed that it's designing a mini-ITX board with AMD's first low-power Fusion chip, Ontario on board.
We are guessing that the beast will end up in some home entertainment systems, but who knows. It is possible that the chip will be equal to Athlon II X2 250U, but with a DirectX 11 graphics chip built in it should end up with just 18W under the bonnet.
If it can manage this spec then there will be a viable alternative to Atom in the mini-ITX market. Asus is keeping details of performance or the boards eventual use close to its chest, although Bit-Tech has clearly been trying. All Asus will say is that it is early days for its board it would not even talk about the possibly of an AMD based EePC.

AMD's Phenom II X6 1075T BE listed and priced :: Posted by THRASHER2
Six-core Thuban
We already wrote about this part a few days ago, but back then we didn't have its price as retail/e-tail has just started listing new AMD parts, including the Phenom II X6 1075T Black Edition CPU.
This 45nm Thuban based six-core Phenom II works at 3.0GHz, has unlocked BClk multiplier, has 512kb of L2 cache and 6MB of L3 cache. It has a rated TDP of 125W and we are talking about AM3 CPU that is, of course, backward compatible with AM2+ socket so you have support for both DDR3-1333 and DDR2-1066 memory.
It is currently listed all over Europe and the lowest price stands at €226,16 in the UK. One Austrian retailer lists it at €239,39 and in Germany it can be found for around €250, depending on the retail/e-tail shop. These are all listings and neither one of these retailers have it in stock, but we are sure that this will change soon enough.

HTC Droid Incredible to receive Android 2.2 on August 18th :: Posted by THRASHER2
Adobe Flash Player 10.1, performance improvements and more
According to a recent Mashable report, HTC Incredible owners have reason to rejoice this Wednesday, as everyone's favorite red themed US telecom provider Verizon is going to start rolling out the yogurt-themed Android update over the air starting August 18.
Sources at Verizon claim to have already installed the Android 2.2 Froyo update on their Droid Incredible smartphones, according to the report. Over the past month and a half, the OS update has been making its rounds on a variety of highly sought after Android smartphones from Verizon and Sprint, including the EVO 4G, the Nexus One and the Motorola Droid.
The Android 2.2 Froyo update includes new software features that many insist will provide Google-based smartphones with more leverage over the Apple iPhone. These features include native support for GPU-accelerated Adobe Flash Player 10.1, significantly improved JavaScript performance, portable WiFi hotspot tethering (support varies by carrier), the ability to record 720p HD videos, and two-way push sync functionality with Chrome-to-Phone.
Other reports around the net indicate that the HTC Droid Incredible will be Verizon's first Droid smartphone to feature mobile hotspot tethering functionality. Unfortunately, the carrier will be offering the service for an additional $20 per month on top of the data plans customers are already paying. In short, we wouldn't be surprised to witness an overwhelming rebellion on Wednesday revealing Droid Incredible owners turning to YouTube video tutorials and blog guides on how to root their smartphones. We expect many will take advantage of single-payment tethering solutions similar to MiWi 4.0 on jailbroken iPhones.
As a bonus for installing Android 2.2 on their devices, Droid Incredible owners are also rumored to receive a new bootup animation depicting the red Droid eye popularly depicted on television advertisements.

Microsoft Internet Explorer turns 15 years old :: Posted by THRASHER2
A gradual decline in value, yet millions of users strong
Today, Microsoft's infamously beloved Internet Explorer web browser has turned 15 years old. As the folks over in Redmond celebrate throughout the corporate offices this afternoon, we can't help but remind ourselves how many countless security issues and overwhelming stability issues the browser has faced over its aging years. Perhaps with some hard liquor, we might appreciate its value in the Windows ecosystem more than the consensus deems it to be worth.
Nevertheless, while Internet Explorer has faced many ups and downs, it still ranks as the most popular browser on earth by a solid 60.74 percent market share lead in August 2010. The first version of the browser, Internet Explorer 1, released to the public on Wednesday, August 16, 1995. It was slightly more than 1MB in size, and didn't realistically do too much. It was based on Mosaic, the famous early web browser known to have popularized the World Wide Web.

MSI working on new graphics cards :: Posted by THRASHER2
GTX 460 Hawk, GTX 480 HydroGen and GTX 480 Lightning
In order to keep the hype going until Nvidia comes out with a new chip, MSI is working on some new cards that should show up pretty soon and give its competition a run for its money. MSI is going to launch a custom version of GTX 480 and GTX 460 cards and names like Lightning and Hawk are pretty much something that we already seen from MSI.
The first one that will be announced is the GTX 480 HydroGen, a water-cooled GTX 480 that will have a decent overclocking potential and most probably a nice factory overclock. Paired up with MSI's Afterburner overclocking utility, this one might break a record or two in the right hands.
The next one is the GTX 460 Hawk, a custom GTX 460 that has been mentioned and rumoured for quite some time. This one will most probably end up with Twin Frozr II cooler, and should have a quite good overclocking potential as well. Despite its 675MHz clock, the card should easily achieve 800MHz and even over with some voltage tweaking. The GTX 460 Hawk will use MSI's Military class components, will need two 6-pin PCI-Express power connecotrs and will have a voltage measure points. The card should be available this month if all goes well.
The last but not least is the MSI GTX 480 Lightning, a top notch GTX 480 prepared exclusively for overclocking. The card should be similar to previously released Lightning cards, which means that it will shine at overclocking and when paired up with a bunch of LN2 should give out great results. This one is planned sometimes later, and as MSI's MOA finals are coming soon we are sure that MSI will have it ready by then.
