New LG 3D HDTV uses Hillcrest's Freespace in-air controller
Hillcrest Labs announces that LG Electronics is using Hillcrest Labs' patented Freespace in-air pointing and motion control technology for LG's first 3D-ready, Internet-connected HDTVs that are currently shipping in the Korean market and will be available globally. LG will use Hillcrest Labs' Freespace solution in current and future products.

IBM details worldÂ’s fastest CPU
Intel and AMD may be battling for the desktop-performance crown, but IBM holds the record for the CPU with the highest clock-speed. Even though it was announced back in July, the company has been going into more detail on the processor at the Hot Chips conference this week. The quad-core z196 runs at an astonishing 5.2GHz, taking the title from IBM's own 4.7GHz Power6 CPU. The new chip contains 1.4 billion transistors, which is 300 million more than Intel's six-core desktop CPUs, on a 512mm2 package made using a 45nm manufacturing-process.

Radeon HD 6000 codenames revealed in latest drivers
Exact details about AMD's next-generation GPUs are still pretty thin-on-the-ground, but even though the company hasn't confirmed the new cards, it may have revealed their codenames in the Catalyst drivers released recently. The folks at rage3D went through the driver-files and found references to some unannounced graphics-cards. Among the codenames are Cayman, Turks, Caicos, Barts, Seymour, Whistler and Blackcomb. The first four probably refer to the Caribbean nations of the Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos and St Barthelemy, while Seymour could be Seymour Island off of the Antarctic Peninsula. Though Seymour Island is certainly southern, the other three are technically in the Northern Hemisphere.

Garmin announces recall of 1.25 million GPS devices
Garmin has announced they are recalling 1.25 million GPS devices due to potential fire hazards from overheating batteries. The navigation company was quick to tell investors that the recall would not hurt quarterly results, and had narrowed down the affected units to its Nuvi range, using third-party supplied batteries within a specified date code range. Each uses the same specific printed circuit board design.

Nokia 1209 exploded, one Indian man killed
Indian citizen Gopal Gujjar was killed last week when his Nokia mobile phone exploded while he was making a call. Gujjar died of injuries to his right ear, neck and shoulders. The body was found with blasted remains of the phone near Gujjar's farm in Banda village, Kota. Police say the phone was a basic level Nokia 1209, which was released in the nation in 2008.

Gmail adds free phone call functionality for US and Canada
As of today, people in US and Canada don't need Skype to make phone calls from the PC to landlines or mobiles phones, as Google has made this possible in Gmail. The VOIP feature is easily accessible through the Chat window on the left and offers some low rates, or no rates, depending on where you're calling.

Arrested Apple manager was hiding $150,000 in shoe boxes
Several weeks ago, former Apple employee Paul Devine was arrested and charged with selling secrets to Asian suppliers in exchange for over $2 million in kickbacks. Devine, one of Apple's global supply managers, was charged with offenses that include wire fraud, money laundering and unlawful monetary transactions , which began back in 2006. Today, federal prosecutors have alleged that Devine stashed over $150,000 in cash in shoe boxes in his home, which were then discovered by federal agents during a raid. Devine is also said to have been hiding $20,000 in different foreign currencies.
