
AMD gains mobile CPU market share in Q2
The latest IDC report reveals that in the second quarter of this year processor shipments went up 3.6% sequentially, and Intel continued to dominate the market with a 80.7% share (down from 81% in Q1), whereas arch-rival AMD grabbed a 19% piece (up from 18.8%).

Motorola's Android tablet is Google's flagship device
Digitimes Research analyst Mingchi Kuo claims that Motorola's 10-inch Android tablet might be Google's officially chosen flagship device. The project has been likened to the T-Mobile G1, where Google had a direct hand in designing the hardware and insisted on pure Android for the OS. Google may consider it a representative of what Android 3.0 could do. The hardware would be fast through using NVIDIA's dual-core Tegra 250, but it would make some sacrifices in the display compared to its obvious rival, the iPad. A Sharp-sourced display wouldn't be as bright as the LG Display-made panel on Apple's tablet, but it would be thinner. Verizon is still seen as the main carrier partner for cellular data.

SanDisk prepares Fuze+ MP3 player
If a new leak proves accurate, SanDisk may finally be updating their aged MP3 player line, launching the new Fuze+ media device. The Fuze+ will be the company's first update to the line since 2008. The new device will have a color OLED screen, capacitive touch buttons and new support for AAC and H.264.

PlayStation 4 games already in development
Game Informer Australia reports that Sony is already preparing games for the upcoming PlayStation 4 console, which hasn't even been announced yet. Rumors of the PlayStation 4 have been around since the start of the year, with most expecting a 2012 launch. While Sony's talk of games is not a direct announcement of the upcoming console, it does make sense that the company is preparing its publishing partners for the eventual launch. Most games take over 16 months to develop, so it is completely necessary for developers to know the specs of the new console at least a few years before its launch.

Another supplier reports about smaller upcoming iPad
Earlier in the month, the popular Taiwanese website Digitimes reported that Apple was creating a 7-inch iPad, almost three inches smaller than the current tablet. Now a second paper, Economic Daily News, is reporting the same thing, although with some details different from the first report. EDN says the new device will weigh 500 grams, compared to the 700 grams of the current model.

Security software market expected to grow by 11% till end of year
Analysts at the Gartner group have come the conclusion that the security software market will grow by 11 per cent this year. According to the outfit, security software is always going to be in demand. Worldwide security software revenue forecast is likely to surpass US$16.5 billion in 2010, this marks an 11.3 per cent increase from the 2009 revenues of US$14.8 billion. Identity and access management have been the key growth areas. Gartner said it takes around eight per cent of company security budgets.

Sony announces new PS3s with larger hard drives
Sony has announced two new updated models of their PlayStation 3 multimedia console, each of which has a larger hard drive than current models. The 120GB model will be replaced by a 160GB model, and the 250GB model will be replaced by a 320GB model, each selling for the same price that the current models do. Sony's new 160GB model will sell for $300.
