Valve Wants to Make The Half-Life Movie Themselves
During an interview with PC Gamer, Gabe Newell basically said that if there was going to be a Half-Life movie it would be made by Valve. "That's when we started saying 'Wow, the best thing we could ever do is to just not do this as a movie, or we'd have to make it ourselves.' And I was like, 'Make it ourselves? Intel Warns 3Q Results Will Miss Expectations
Intel has just announced that it is cutting sales forecasts for the current quarter. Intel shares slipped a penny in morning trading to $18.17. Intel is the world's biggest provider of microprocessors for PCs and a bellwether for the broader technology industry. In a statement Friday, the company said it is seeing "weaker than expected demand for consumer PCs in mature markets." The company says it now expects revenue of $10.8 billion to $11.2 billion for the fiscal third quarter, which ends in September. That compares with a previous forecast of $11.2 billion to $12 billion. Comments

Auditors Question U.S. Wireless Competition
A new report from the Government Accountability Office says that, although prices have come down over the years, consumers currently have fewer choices. As requested, this report discusses changes in the wireless industry since 2000, stakeholders' perceptions of regulatory policies and industry practices, and the strategies FCC uses to monitor competition. To conduct this work, GAO collected and analyzed data and documents from a variety of government and private sources; conducted case studies in both rural and urban areas of four states; and interviewed stakeholders representing consumers, local and state agencies and officials, and various segments of the industry. ATI Southern Islands Codenames Spotted
Besides performance enhancements and new features, yesterday's Catalyst 10.8 driver release also offered up a list of codenames of upcoming products from AMD. ATI's latest driver release, Catalyst 10.8, offers plenty of performance boosts and new features (notably OpenGL ES 2.0, which enables WebGL acceleration in modern browsers). However, Catalyst 10.8 also lists several new and familiar codenames, which most likely refer to Southern Islands products. Interestingly, all codenames are prefixed by "NI", which might stand for Northern Islands. Some of the codenames divulged are Cayman, Antilles, and Blackcomb. Comments

According to anonymous sources claiming to have "direct knowledge" of the deal, Intel is close to an agreement to buy Infineon's wireless business. An announcement could come as early as this week, the people said, declining to be identified because the talks are private. Some guy is trying to reach level 70 in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer without killing anyone? I'm not sure what is so special about this, there are tons of these people on my team every damn time I play online. I thought it just meant they sucked. Glen McCracken is hero to hippies. The Modern Warfare 2 player has set an interesting goal for himself. McCracken is going for level 70 in the game, without killing a single person.
