PC market grew by 22% in Q2
IDC's latest Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker report reveals that in Q2, the PC market has been doing very well and grew by 22.4% on-year, with total shipments reaching 81,505,000 million units thanks to strong growth in the EMEA and Asia/Pacific regions.

Toshiba and SanDisk readying the new NAND flash factory
Toshiba and SanDisk have announced their new joint venture to open an advanced NAND flash memory chip factory in Japan, to keep ahead of strong growth in the market for the chips. SanDisk will pay for part of the production equipment at the factory, which will be overall run by Toshiba.

Sony reveals first consumer-oriented camcorder with interchangeable lenses
Sony announced the first consumer-oriented camcorder with interchangeable lenses and also the first Handycam camcorder to feature an extra-large Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor, Handycam NEX-VG10. Extra-large Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor is already in use on the more expensive NEX-5 and NEX-3 models. Measuring 85 x 130 x 223 mm and weighting in just 620 grams, the NEX-VG10 can take 14 megapixel still images and capture 1080p (1920 x 1080) high definition video at up to 24Mbps, and features an E-mount 18-200mm lens providing 11x optical zoom.

Retailers lowering prices of HD 5800 series
It seems like some retailers and AMD partners are preparing to cut HD 5800 prices in order to maintain their lead over Nvidia, especially after release of the new GeForce GTX 460. Bear in mind that there is still no official confirmation on any price cuts and we are merely monitoring some early listings in the US and EU. Radeon HD 5830 prices on Newegg appear to be going down and several cards are listed at $10 to $20 less. EU prices appear to be following suit, but bear in mind that some EU retailers were offering HD 5830 for less than €199 more than a month ago.
