HP's Rubinstein Says webOS 2.0 Coming Later This Year
When HP acquired Palm earlier this year, the webOS community feared the end was in sight. Within days of the acquisition, however, HP put any fears to rest by confirming that it had no plans to abandon webOS or Palm's smartphone business. Instead, HP said that it planned to put webOS in a bunch of other devices such as printers and tablets. Recently, Jon Rubinstein, former Palm CEO, dropped a casual mention of an updated version of webOS — version 2.0 — at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference.

Lexar 128GB Echo SE USB Flash Drives Keeps Things Backed Up
The race to "bigger" is never-ending in the storage department, even when we're talking about USB flash drives. Recently, USB drives have hit somewhat of a ceiling, with 256GB being the largest that is advertised to consumers. But Lexar has a better idea. Rather than pushing things even larger at price points that no average person could afford, they have tweaked their Echo SE line to create an entirely new kind of product. The 128GB Echo SE looks like a standard USB flash drive, but it's actually far more than

Razer Launches Awesome Tron-Inspired Gaming Gear
We don't often get too geeked over movie tie-ins, but we have to hand it to Razer for not only building a product line around the upcoming Tron remake based on the one of the most popular sci-fi flicks of all time, but for doing a killer job with it. Even non-Tron fans are likely to do a double take at these new peripherals, all three of which sport a nifty luminescent blue glow. "We are all extremely excited about our collaboration with Disney on a line of high-end gaming peripherals inspired by the upcoming

Nokia CEO Admits That He May Be Headed Out After Terrible Q2
Where this is smoke, there is fire, right? That's the old saying, and it's not still being said for no particular reason. Nokia as a whole has been struggling to keep pace over the past few years, mostly due to an inability to release a "hero level" smartphone to compete with the iPhone and various other Android phones. But they're also struggling to keep sales up in general, and struggling to keep selling prices as high as they have been. A mountain of related issues have led the company to report an underwhelming

HP Slate Confirmed As Real, But Will Ship First To Enterprise
And with that, the mystery is solved. Well, at least we think the mystery is solved. This story goes a long way back, all the way to CES 2010. At that show, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer came out onto a stage with an HP-branded tablet PC, which was simply called the "HP Slate" at the time. But then, no one saw or heard from it again. As the months passed, the iPad soared in popularity and just about every other computer maker announced a slate or two, HP remained quiet. And then HP purchased Palm. People immediately

Google Voice Improvements Lead to Faster Dialing
Google has released an updated Google Voice has been updated on BlackBerry and Android phones. The new version will reduce the amount of time it takes for a user to make a call via the service. Google Voice is the service that Google acquired when it was GrandCentral. It allows you to receive a call on your Google Voice number, and have it directed to a number of phones, or straight to voicemail, depending on the caller. You can also call with that number, and have it display as your GV number, not your actual

Bid Farewell to the Nexus One
They're gone. Google has sold out its last batch of Nexus Ones, only a few days after Google reported that they had received their last shipment from HTC, for online sale. It was a grand experiment, selling the HTC Nexus One online, but it was doomed to failure: originally, while the device was (nicely) unlocked, it could only be bought with a subsidy on the T-Mobile network. At the same time, customers who bought the device experience a lot of issues trying to determine who to go to for tech support (and

Even non-Tron fans are likely to do a double take at these new peripherals, all three of which sport a nifty luminescent blue glow.

"We are all extremely excited about our collaboration with Disney on a line of high-end gaming peripherals inspired by the upcoming film TRON: Legacy," said Robert Krakoff, president, Razer USA. "Razer is known for our highly detailed finishes and lighting effects, so as soon as we viewed footage from TRON: Legacy, we were immediately inspired. Then, we started working to take it to the next level, as only Razer can, with a keyboard and mouse that has digitized sound effects and lighting built into it for the ultimate gaming experience."

First up is the Tron Gaming Keyboard, a futuristic looking plank with lighting effects during start-up and shutdown. It comes with a detachable modular keypad that can be placed on either side of the keyboard, fully programmable chiclet keys with macro capabilities, media jacks (audio out, microphone in), and Tron lighting alerts triggered by in-game actions. This one will sell for $150 in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Along with a keyboard, Razer is also releasing a Tron Gaming Mouse ($100) with the same lighting effects. It features an ambidextrous design, a 5600dpi 3.5g laser sensor, 7 buttons, and a braided 7-foot USB cable. For $30 more, Razer will toss in a Tron Gaming Mousepad, again with lighting effects and a bioluminescent tracking glow trail.

"This quarter's record revenue reflects the breadth of our offerings and our continued product momentum," said Peter Klein, chief financial officer. "The revenue growth, combined with our ongoing cost discipline, helped us achieve another quarter of margin expansion."

Microsoft has been firing on all fronts, from the recent launch of Office 2010 to continued strong sales of Windows 7, which has now sold over 175 million licenses. All this on top of Windows Server, a revamped Xbox that's purportedly cheaper to produce, and Bing, which Microsoft says has been gaining market share for 13 consecutive months.

"We saw strong sales execution across all of our businesses, particularly in the enterprise with Windows 7 and Office 2020," said Kevin Turner, chief operating officer. "Our transition to cloud services is well underway with offerings like Windows Azure and our Business Productivity Online Services, and we look forward to continuing our product momentum this fall with the upcoming launches of Windows Phone 7 and Xbox connect."

The 128GB Echo SE looks like a standard USB flash drive, but it's actually far more than that. The device is an auto-backup drive that begins to back up your hard drive as soon as you plug it into your computer. This is particularly useful for those with 120GB or smaller SSDs, or in netbooks with 120GB or less hard drives. Quite a few of the cheaper, lower-end notebooks have hard drives smaller than 128GB, and this basically allows users to back up their entire HDD without thinking about it. Just leave the drive plugged in, and everything's backed up. Simple!

The only thing that isn't so simple is figuring out how to come up with the $349.99 that it will cost you.

Fremont, CA, June 20, 2010 – Lexar Media, a leading global provider of memory products for digital media, today announced the addition of the 128GB Echo SE backup drive to the popular Echo line of portable backup solutions. Designed to protect valuable data on netbook and notebook computers, the Echo SE drive now offers up to 128GB of storage, allowing users to automatically back up more essential files – anytime, anywhere. Once backup is complete, the Echo SE drive easily slips into a pocket or bag for portability with the knowledge that critical files are backed up if a laptop is lost or stolen. The Echo SE backup drive is available in capacities of 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.

The software also offers the ability to create multiple backup plans for multiple computers on one drive. Additionally, the software offers optional 128-bit AES encryption, enabling protection in the event of drive loss.

The Echo backup drive product line also includes the plug-and-stay, low-profile Echo ZE, one of the smallest USB drives in the world at 20.1 by 15.1 millimeters. The Echo ZE is available in capacities of 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB.

People immediately began to suspect that the HP Slate was being delayed in order to get WebOS (Palm's mobile operating system) onto the device, which would make it the first WebOS Slate in existence. Eventually, HP did decide to speak out about the product, and rumors began to fly that it would eventually ship with Windows 7, that it would be killed completely, or that it would once again resurface as a WebOS-equipped product.

Now, the truth has finally been revealed. During an interview with Fortune this week, HP Personal Systems Group VP Todd Bradley stated that the Slate we have all been wondering about will be "more customer-specific than broadly deployed" and that HP would begin shipping the Microsoft-equipped (which means Windows 7, we suspect) product to enterprise customers in the fall. So, there's good news and bad news here. The good news is that the HP Slate lives, but the bad news is that it may never actually be sold to mere consumers. It's strange to think that HP would announce the Slate at a consumer electronics show, only to convert it into an enterprise device once they have our attention. But who knows; maybe the Slate with Windows 7 became the enterprise slate once WebOS was picked up via Palm. So now, we wait for a WebOS tablet for the consumer, right? Here's hoping...

Updated Skype iPhone App Adds Background Calling Support; No 3G Fee
There's no question that more and more smartphone users are using their data services more often than voice services. And with the popularity of texting on the rise, actually calling someone has become an event that happens far less frequently than it used to. And even when you do call someone, there's a good chance that the person has a Skype account, which means that you can call them for free (or close to free) rather than using pricey voice minutes from your carrier.

Having Skype on the iPhone was (and is) a pretty big deal, particularly after the company upgraded the app back in March to support calls over 3G. Before that, calls could only be completed over Wi-Fi. But with 3G calling enabled, it basically allowed users to use Skype exclusively for calls. The only problem? Since Skype couldn't remain "connected" at all times, you never knew who exactly was online at any given time.

But with iOS 4, and the advent of background processing, people instantly began to look for an update to the Skype app that would support leaving the app open in the background. If you could leave Skype open and connected in the background, your status would continually be online so long as you had your smartphone on you, and then other Skype members could give you a ring without using AT&T's voice minutes. Now, that update has arrived. The updated version means you can receive Skype calls while other apps are running, even when your iPhone is locked. And during a call, you can keep the conversation going while you switch to another task, such as checking a movie listing or reading an email.

And what's better, is that Skype has decided to do away with the proposed "charge for 3G access" fee. A few months ago, users were told that a fee would eventually be implemented in order to allow users to continue calling over 3G. For whatever reason (likely due to immense complaints), the company has thrown that fee out. Good news all around, so you might as well grab the update now.

A mountain of related issues have led the company to report an underwhelming quarterly earnings, with Q2 profits sinking an incredible 40% year-over-year. And that's compared to 2009, which was the peak of the recession.

But it's no shock to hear that Nokia's profits are plunging. The company hasn't produced a compelling smartphone in over a year, and in the North American market, smartphones are what sell. Of course, Nokia is still making money without issue, and plenty of it by some estimates, but whenever your profits sink year-over-year, you'll have investors complaining.

And those complaints have certainly been pointed. Directly at the CEO, in fact. And he knows it. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo recently came forward to address some of the heat he has been taking, telling CNBC this week: "There has been a lot of speculation on my position, on myself, during the last couple of weeks and that is not good for Nokia and must be brought to an end one way or another. At the same time, I'm not in a position here and now to really shed any more light on the topic so I guess this is a no comment. I really concentrate now on the task at hand."

That's a pretty foreboding statement. What CEO admits that he may be on the way out if he doesn't think it's a distinct possibility? As much as we would hate for Nokia's long-standing leader to be pushed out, the company is in dire need of a new vision from someone. They simply aren't a part of North American culture any more, and without mind share, it's hard to gain market share. We can only hope that Nokia gets their gears turning soon. Believe it or not, we need the competition. Just look at how much iOS has improved since the advent of Android.

Staples sales on moniters!!
There is a Staples down the street from me I,ve been going to for years and at times have pretty decent sales you just got to keep your eye out for them. They have Acer Dell HP and other moniters including Hannspree. Now I know Hannspree is not the top of the list but I,ve been reading up on a couple of their models and have seen some impressive reviews. So right now I,ve got my eye on a Hannspree 25" on sale for a price tag of $200.00, reg price is $249.00. I think they are going to be stocking this thing as one of their regulars.I been looking it over well in the store and out of several moniters that are displayed it has the best color of all then the next 2 are a Acer and a HP. Its a really great looking moniter and has the functions I want just thought I would see if any of you have had experiance with them. Of course Staples has an additional instore warranty which isnt very much so I would invest in that too but I think it would be a great addition to my rig. Any opinions.
see this link:
http://www.staples.com/Hannspree-HF255HPB-25-Widescreen-LCD-Monitor/product_864219&cmArea=CIRCULAR
Now of course the ad does,nt do justice to the looks of it but I can tell you standing in front of it it appears to be quality! In addition to the instore sale price also have a coupon for $10.00 more off the price.
