Using Social Media To Get a Job
You know how it is when you don't have a job, you sit around all day stalking people on Twitter and Facebook? Type in the name of the company you're eyeing and then review the profiles of each person (or organization) that pops up. Follow those who work in recruiting and/or within the departments that appeal to you. Comments

Tech Support Showdown 2010
The results of LAPTOP Magazine's Tech Support Showdown 2010 are now online. See how twelve of the biggest names in the PC industry fared when their tech support was put to the test. During our tests we encountered, on average, 13-minute call times with less than 4 minutes of time spent on hold. That's down by more than a minute compared to last year's results. However, a few of the big brands refused to answer our questions unless they were strictly in reference to broken hardware, pitching some fairly pricey support packages instead. This disturbing trend aside, there were some pleasant surprises. Comments

RIAA Paid Lawyers $16M to Recover $391k
It doesn't take a mathematician to realize spending $16 million to recover $391,000 isn't very smart at all. The RIAA paid Holmes Roberts & Owen $9,364,901 in 2008, Jenner & Block more than $7,000,000, and Cravath Swain & Moore $1.25 million, to pursue its "copyright infringement" claims, in order to recover a mere $391,000. [ps there were many other law firms feeding at the trough too; these were just the ones listed among the top 5 independent contractors.] Comments

Facebook Refuses to Take Down Tribute Page to Killer
Facebook has upset a group of people by refusing to remove a tribute page dedicated to a guy that maimed and killed innocent people. What do you think, is Facebook right or wrong in this situation? "I cannot understand any wave, however small, of public sympathy for this man. There should be sympathy for his victims and the havoc he wreaked in that community. There should be no sympathy for him,'' some members of the British Parliament are suggesting that Facebook should remove the Moat fan page. Comments

An iPhone 4 Recall Less Costly Than Apple's Share Drop
Considering the fact that all this bad iPhone 4 news has caused Apple to lose $5B in market share, experts seem to think a $1.5B iPhone 4 recall might not be so bad after all. This growing anger is starting to cost Apple more than a $1.5 billion recall. On Tuesday, its stock shed $5 a share on a day the market traded higher. The sharp drop cost Apple $5 billion in valuation, writes Robert Cyran for Reuters Breakingviews, who echoed the PR dismay we reported in this space yesterday. Comments

Mozilla has put the smack down on Mozilla Sniffer, a password stealing app that has been making the rounds. The software, called Mozilla Sniffer, had been downloaded about 1,800 times in the approximately five weeks it was available on addons.mozilla.org, Mozilla reported in a blog post on Tuesday. The blocklist will prompt the add-on to be uninstalled for computers running the program. Users who installed it should change their passwords. Mozilla Sniffer intercepts login data and sends it to a remote server that appeared to be down, according to the blog post. Comments

Asus Breaks Into PC Makers' Top 5
Congrats to the crew at ASUS, it looks like the company is now number five on the list of the top PC manufactures around the world. For the second quarter of 2010, Asus shipped 4.3 million PCs, good enough for 5.3 percent of the worldwide market, according to IDC. The Taiwanese manufacturer's PC shipments grew 84 percent during the quarter, allowing it to pull into a dead-even tie with Toshiba for the very first time: the two are tied, that is, for fifth-most PC sales during the quarter behind usual suspects Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Acer, and Lenovo.
