Windows, Mac, or Linux: It's Not the OS, It's the User
Security experts say that criminals aren't exploiting OS vulnerabilities to get your personal info anymore. Instead, the scumbag crooks are relying more on social engineering tricks to steal information these days. This trend has been rising rapidly over the past two years. Currently, only about 3 percent of the malicious software that Symantec encounters exploits a technical vulnerability. The other 97 percent of malware is either "piggybacking on that 3 percent," or more likely trying to trick a user through some type of "social engineering" scheme, according to Zulfikar. Comments

Steve Jobs Will Fix This Foxconn Suicide Nonsense
Have no fear, Steve Jobs is here! There will be no more suicides at Foxconn from this point forward! Fake Steve Jobs isn't buying it nor does he like the "national average" argument: Also, consider this. Walmart has 1.4 million employees in the United States. Can you remember a time when 10 or 15 Walmart workers jumped to their deaths from the roofs of Walmart stores over the course of a few months? Have you ever heard of Walmart asking employees to sign a no-suicide contract, or putting safety nets up on all of its buildings? If this did happen, would you think maybe something is going on at Walmart? Or would you just say, well, 10 or 15 people out of 1.4 million is still waaaay below the national average?" Comments

Streaming Video to Outpace P2P Traffic Growth
Analyst are predicting that, within just four years, 90% of all content traffic on the web will be video. Ninety percent? Sure doesn't leave much room for anything else. In total, Cisco said, video traffic will exceed 91 percent of all global IP traffic in the next four years. It would take more than two years to watch the amount of video that will cross global IP networks every second in 2014. And it would take 72 million years to watch all the video crossing the network in 2014, Cisco has said. Comments

Finnish Police Probe Theft of Virtual Furniture
Normally I would make fun of a story about the police investigating the theft of virtual furniture but, after that dude stabbed a guy in real life over a knifing that took place in Counter Strike last week, I think I'll pass on the jokes this time. "Significant amounts of virtual property" were stolen from around 400 users of the Habbo Hotel virtual hotel, where visitors can create a character for themselves to hang out with friends, take care of virtual pets and furnish their own rooms for a fee, Finnish police said Tuesday. Free malware with every download? Yup, there's an app for that. Google Has Mapped Every WiFi Network in Britain
What was that company motto again? It's on the tip of my tongue…something about not being evil. Yeah, Google is doing a great job trying to maintain that image. Every WiFi wireless router – the device that links most computer owners to the internet - in every home has been entered into a Google database. The information was collected by radio aerials on their Street View cars, which have now photographed almost every home in the country. Comments

Rhetorical Question of the Day
Do First-Person Shooters really need all of that shooting? In real life, I'm not especially bloodthirsty. As a matter of fact, I'm not violent at all. I abhor real world violence and consider warfare to be an atavistic curse of our species - the worst part of our primate heritage. Still, there's something about catching an enemy in the cross-hairs of my sniper rifle and watching them drop with one well-placed digital bullet. Comments
