Panasonic Lumix FX75, A Buttonless 24mm Wide Angle 14MP Sub-compact

Well, the tablet craze is upon us and it seems digital camera manufacturers are not above joining in on the fun. The new Panasonic Lumix FX75 strips off almost all of its buttons for a sleek looking back that is almost 100% buttons. All the menu options and framing controls are handled on screen with Panasonic's usual flare. Even relying solely on the huge 3.0" LCD screen as a viewfinder, the rechargeable batteries manage up to 360 shots per charge. The top class OIS image stabilization returns as well as a few other tweaks, like a F2.2 lens for great low light pictures.

More fun can be had with the video recording features that have been tweaked and re-tweaked. Up to 720p video recording is possible saved to AVCHD lite format. Included software helps you convert video and images into YouTube ready versions or into QT panoramic movies. Combined with a super wide angle 24mm lens with a 5x optical zoom, the Panasonic FX75 Lumix would make for a great partner on your next picnic.

Bike USB Charger Pedals Power to Your iPhone

If you are already enough of a conservationist to be biking long distances, this gadget may shoot to the top of your wish list. The Bicycle Charger is a fairly traditional pedal powered dynamo with a USB twist. Pressing the crank wheel against your tire as you travel, the dynamo generates electricity to power an LED headlight. During the day, you can make use of its attached USB port to power any USB charging peripherals you might need, such as a cellular phone or music player. At night, please make use of the included light system.

The Bicycle Charger also has its own internal lithium ion battery that can store power for your devices for later. The 600 mAh would require roughly a 10 mile bike trip at normal speeds for a full charge, much more appetizing than the 3 days walking required by the nPower Peg. This should be just enough top fully charge an average cell phone at least once. It should be noted that if you are observed using your cell phone while driving a bicycle it is perfectly legal for anyone to run you off the road. You'd best be charging an MP3 player and not adding to the number of accidents caused by distracted drivers.

Samsung 18.5" USB-powered LCD Monitor is Quite Something

Mini USB monitors have been around for a while yet as their name suggests, they are rather small so their applications are often limited to widget and media player display. Samsung believes USB display religiously, and it has been an avid supporter of the technology. You can tell by the half a dozen of USB LCD monitors shipping since 2006. The company now plans to roll out what we call the ultimate USB display - a bus-powered 18.5" LCD monitor running entirely from USB.

The prototype LCD monitor is in fact the largest display ever powered entirely by just USB. This is possible all thanks to a new energy efficient LCD panel and edge-lighting LEDs. Both advances help to reduce power consumption to 6.3W. Admittedly, Samsung needed two USB ports to power the monitor; perhaps USB 3.0 could help in this matter. As for the monitor itself, the specs isn't that impressive with a 1366 x 768 16:9 widescreen resolution; 250cd/m2 brightness; and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. There isn't even a hint to the response time, though it's very unlikely the Samsung bus-powered USB LCD will be marketed a gamers' toy.
