Black Wii Coming Soon
Nintendo's attempt to reinvigorate Wii sales is set to reach American shores soon, on May 4 in fact. The new black Wii has been a success overseas for some time, provoking Nintendo to go ahead with the U.S. rollout. This new model is the only other colour available for Wii, apart from the standard white model. The black Wii will be available in a bundle including Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort and Wii Motion Plus, retailing for $199.99. The same bundle will be available in a white version too. I think that these new bundles will offer better value for the consumer, although I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Does a new lick of paint really make that much of a difference? It seems so.

Acer to Launch Full Line of Mobile Internet Devices
Acer has announced that it will be launching a full line of mobile internet devices, or MIDs, by the end of May to hopefully boost profitability. Acer will also launch version 4.0 of its Shell user interface on these new MIDs, so we should be getting a fairly nice visual treat on them. Each MID will be able to use a 3G wireless service to access data and can share data and interact with each other. However, Acer offered no details on what exactly these devices will look like or what features will be on them, just that it will be gearing up for a new line of MIDs by the end of May. I am sure it will not be long before we see these new devices and exactly what they will entail.
Acer also reported that first quarter profits rose 36 percent year-on-year to reach $5.2 billion. Acer said these results would have been better but it faced some problems during shipment of the components. It seems not all the components arrived on time which delayed production, but Acer was eventually able to get all the necessary components to help turn a profit. Hopefully these new MIDs will also aid the company to turn a bigger profit during the next quarter.

Sony Sued Over Removal of Install Other OS Option
After gamers lost the ability to install another OS on their Playstation 3s, it seems Sony is now being hit with a class action lawsuit over that removal. This lawsuit comes about because gamers feel that it is in their right to install any OS they wish on their PS3s and since Sony has removed that function, Sony has essentially axed a core foundation of the PS3. You see, Sony always lauded the install other OS feature of the PS3 as a unique ability that set it apart from other consoles. Sony removed the ability because of "security concerns" it saw with it, but those concerns did not involve anyone who owned a PS3 but rather "hackers" who could copy or steal game content. The class action lawsuit covers anyone who purchased a PS3 between November 17, 2006 and March 27, 2010 who did not resell their machine. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages but does claim that it will exceed $5 million.
