Lenovo switches its ultra-mobiles to Android
Lenovo settled questions around its ultra-mobile PCs by planing a switch in OS for the Skylight smartbook and the IdeaPad U1 detachable tablet. The two will drop Lenovo's custom Linux distro for Android in what's treated as a reaction to market conditions and user feedback . Future plans now involve creating an entire ecosystem of Android devices that would include devices like the LePhone. Both computers were unveiled at CES and would have been been on the market as soon as April but have seen at least one delay each. The Skylight was last pushed back to July. No official explanation has been given until today why that might have been, although one rumor about the Skylight's delay claimed it was to fend off the iPad by producing more competitive offering.

Part by Part: Get to Know Your Graphics Card
When we take a look at the situation a few years back, a large number of educational texts concerning the basics of motherboard functioning meant that even irregular followers of the IT industry eventually bumped into one of them. On the other hand, graphics cards are somehow always left out, reviewed, but without much explanation for various expressions, acronyms and terms that make most “newbs” startled. Having understood this, we’ve decided to deal with graphics card in the theoretical sense a little. This is, after all, one of the vital (THE vital, if you’re asking the author of this article) system components, the elements of which should be known at least roughly. Since it would be an incredibly arduous task to take pictures of each element on every type of card, we’ve chosen a single referent model - Zotac GeForce GTS250. This card has a rather typical design, therefore ideal for our intentions.

Asus displays Rampage III Gene micro-ATX motherboard
Holding a pre-Computex event of its own, Asus has this week presented some of its newest Republic of Gamers hardware, including the yet unannounced Rampage III Gene micro-ATX motherboard powered by Intel's X58 chipset. GeForce GTX 465 consumes up to 200W
As we know from earlier reports, GeForce GTX 465 is a cut down version of Geforce GTX 470. Now there is a new info: it's a dual slot card as you can expect and it has two 6-pin connectors and the recommended PSU should be at least 550W. The thermal design power of a chip (TDP) is 200W, which is just 15W less than with GTX 470 card. It is still 50W less from much faster Geforce GTX 480.

Intel releases Core i5 and i7 with unlocked multipliers
Intel launched a pair of Core i5 and Core i7 desktop processors designed to ramp well above their official speeds. The dual-core, 3.2GHz i5-655K and the quad-core, 2.93GHz i7-875K both have their clock multipliers unlocked and are easy to scale upwards. They can invoke Turbo Boost to reach 3.46GHz and 3.6GHz respectively but can go to 3.8GHz and beyond through overclocking, especially when using more advanced cooling system. The processors keep the same 4MB and 8MB of Level 3 cache each and otherwise behave like their multiplier-locked counterparts, with Hyperthreading on the Core i7 giving it the behavior of an eight-core processor with optimized apps.

Key WebOS developer leaves for Google Android
In late April, HP announced it was purchasing the struggling smartphone maker Palm for 1.2 billion dollars. The deal gave HP all of Palm's patents and the WebOS mobile operating system, which some argue is the best mobile OS available today. Palm had put itself up for sale in the last two months after it became clear that the company's phones were not selling and it only had enough cash to last the next 12 months. The ink has not even dried on the deal yet, but HP has seen its first setback, with key WebOS developer Matias Duarte jumping ship to Google, to work on the rival Android operating system.
