Supreme Court Rules Pirate Bay Must Stay Blocked
The Supreme Court in Denmark, upholding previous rulings by lower courts, has just ruled that The Pirate Bay must continue to be blocked. "We are pleased that we now have the opportunity to find out whether it is Internet Service Providers' responsibility to ensure the closure of a website," noted Telenor's regulatory chief Nicholai Kramer Pfeiffer. Representatives from the music industry believed a decision in their favor was required. Comments

Japan Plans $2B Robot Moon Base by 2020
Japan has announced plans for a moon base for robots by 2020. As much as I want to make jokes, this actually sounds pretty cool. A Japanese government panel has produced a draft paper outlining how humanoid rover robots will begin surveying the moon by 2015, according to a report by the prime minister's office. As part of the $2.2 billion project, the droids will begin construction of an unmanned base near the south pole of the moon that will be powered by solar panels. Comments

Man Shoots at iPhone Thieves
Witness to an iPhone theft? There's a cap for that! Get it? App for that? Bust a cap? Bah, nevermind. Witter, 48, was in an AT&T store at 533 Northwest Division Street in Gresham when two men stole multiple iPhones. Witter witnessed the theft and, instead of waiting for police, he took off after the men, firing at their getaway car. He told police he intended to "shoot out the tires," but it is unclear where the rounds ended up. Comments

Foxconn Workers Killing Themselves For Money
What is behind the rash of suicides at Foxconn? If you believe this guy, the workers are killing themselves for money. Better yet, he says that if you remove that money, the suicides will stop. Huh?!?! Without it, Foxconn finds itself in the position of continuing to pay 110,000 yuan (£11,000) in compensation to every person who jumps. For a depressed Foxconn employee, who still feels an obligation to repay his family for the cost of his or her upbringing and who would like to give his parents a lump sum that could transform their lives, this is a very tempting sum. Did Warner Bros. Pirate Antipiracy Technology?
To hear Hollywood studios tell it, you shouldn't pirate stuff because it robs others of compensation for their hard workÂ…well, except when they do it. "We disclosed our anti-piracy technology to Warner Bros. in 2003 at their request, under strict confidentiality, expecting to be treated fairly," MPV says in a statement. "Instead, they started using our technology extensively without our permission and without any accounting to us. However, we had taken care to obtain patents to protect MPV's technology, and we are now in a position where we must assert our rights." Comments

Greenpeace: 'Michael, What The Dell?'
And people wonder why no one takes Greenpeace seriously anymore. Maybe it is stunts like this, what ever happened to regular picketing? It's strange that Greenpeace sought to single-out Dell in particular, since the company actually has a pretty good environmental record, according to Greenpeace's own statistics. While Dell did miss its 2009 deadline, the company has often been ranked ahead of many others in past Greenpeace guides for its positive practices and efforts with regard to energy and e-waste. So Kyle stumbles onto a link to the "hardest game EVAR" in the forums and decided to pass the link on to me. After 112 attempts, I couldn't pass the first damn level. Seriously. The closest I got to beating the first level was when I took this screenshot of the game. Think you can do better? Hit the link and post your score. Blame eeyrjmr for this one.

Sony Europe Confirms Premium PlayStation Network
After months of rumors and speculation, Sony has finally confirmed a Premium PlayStation Network. I kinda like the PSN the way it is, makes you wonder what they plan on offering / adding to make people want to pay for something they already get free. I can assure you that the current PSN as you know it will remain a free service. It is something that our competitors don't offer and something that shows our loyalty to the PlayStation Community. However, Kaz Hirai stated a few months ago that we were looking at a premium service to sit alongside the current free service and that objective has not changed. You'll learn more about it very soon. Comments

Facebook has once again changed its privacy controls and there are only two options now...either a.) use Facebook or b.) don't use Facebook. Problem solved. Facebook responded to the backlash Wednesday by announcing it is simplifying its privacy controls and applying them retroactively, so users can protect the status updates and photos they have posted in the past. "A lot of people are upset with us," CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged at a news conference at Facebook's Palo Alto, Calif., headquarters. Comments

Do Video Games Equal Less Crime?
Well what do you know, video games actually help reduce the crime rate. Makes sense, kids are too busy snorting lines of GTAIV off of a hooker's ass to be out committing crimes. Lawrence Katz, a labor economist, has an intriguing item to add to the list of potential causes: video games. When I spoke to him recently, he was very careful to say it was only an idea. He is far from sure that it's correct. But, as The Economist put it, "Larry Katz, a Harvard economist, suspects that video games and Web sites may have kept the young and idle busy during this recession, thus explaining the surprising lack of an uptick in crime."
