Hollywood Gets Injunction To Disconnect The Pirate Bay
It would appear that Hollywood finally got an injunction against The Pirate Bay. Once in place, the injunction will force TPB off the internet for at least 5 or 6 hours. No comment from the non-owners of TPB yet but it is still early. It appears that Columbia Pictures, Disney Enterprises, Paramount Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal, and Warner Bros. have obtained a preliminary injunction against CB3ROB Ltd from the Regional Court of Hamburg. The injunction, which was granted without an oral hearing, states that the CB3ROB company (and its Managing Director Mr. Sven Olaf Kamphuis personally) are hereby prohibited from connecting The Pirate Bay website and associated servers to the Internet. Open Source Facebook Alternative
What are the benefits of an open source Facebook alternative? Aside from the novel ideal of respecting your privacyÂ…these four guys will automatically be on your friends list too. Wait, I'm not sure if that last part is a plus or minus. A few months back, four geeky college students, living on pizza in a computer lab downtown on Mercer Street, decided to build a social network that wouldn't force people to surrender their privacy to a big business. It would take three or four months to write the code, and they would need a few thousand dollars each to live on. Comments

Adobe's Open Letter To Apple
Adobe's founders have posted an open letter to Apple titled "Our thoughts on open markets" today. In addition to the letter, Adobe has also started an ad campaign that takes Apple to task for shunning Flash. We believe that Apple, by taking the opposite approach, has taken a step that could undermine this next chapter of the web — the chapter in which mobile devices outnumber computers, any individual can be a publisher, and content is accessed anywhere and at any time. In the end, we believe the question is really this: Who controls the World Wide Web? And we believe the answer is: nobody — and everybody, but certainly not a single company. Comments

New DoS Attack Uses Web Servers as Zombies
Researchers say they have discovered a botnet that uses compromised webservers to launch DoS attacks (instead of regular old PCs). The attackers are using a simple user interface to specify who they want to attack, what port and for how long. A few clicks later the DoS attack begins. Security firm Imperva said on Wednesday it uncovered a botnet of about 300 Web servers after one of its "honeypot" servers was used in an attack and based on a search of attack code via Google. Web servers were commonly used in such attacks a decade ago but had been replaced by the more ubiquitous Windows-based PCs, said Amachai Shulman, chief technology officer at Imperva. Comments

This model city made of motherboards is pretty damn spiffy. Since it is supposed to be Helsinki, I used Google Earth to snag a comparison photo. It looks like the artist did a really good job. Take a look: Comments

Facebook's Darth Vader Grip On Game Publishers
Let me see if I got this rightÂ…game publishers are MAD over the way they are treated by Facebook? I'm not taking sides here but how can you complain about a service that gets your game out to 80 million people a month? Especially when you consider how many people were playing those games without Facebook. Sheesh. Imagine a 400 pound bully strangling another kid while simultaneously rummaging through his pockets for lunch money. And he's speaking quite calmly the whole time about what great friends they still are. Or else. Comments
