Viliv HD5 5" PMP - Killer Battery Life Perfect for 1080p MKV Entertainment
PMPs of various sizes have found a niche market for themselves, both for keeping toddlers occupied in a fancy restaurant and serving as a mobile movie theater in place of your smartphone. This 5" media player, brought to you by Korean Viliv, has one purpose and that is to play all those 1080p H.264 MKV on its 5" WVGA (800x480) capacitive touchscreen. The LCD itself is 16:9 so majority of Blu-ray rips should fill every pixels. Battery life can last up to 13 hours with enough video playback time to last through cross-Pacific flights.
The Viliv HD5 PMP comes in 8GB, 16GB or 32GB. If the internal memory isn't enough, a SDHC slot is at your disposal providing a maximum of 32GB additional storage. A custom-made skin runs on top of Windows CE 6.0, but don't even expect a library of third party apps to come out like the one planned for Windows Mobile 7. Last but not least is a HDMI interface for hooking up the Viliv HD5 to a larger high-def TV. It does seem Viliv plans to bring the HD5 to the stateside, though there's no release date yet.
