AMD shipping Fusion Llano samples
Not long after news of Intel shipping thousands of Sandy Bridge samples, AMD have announced at their own financial conference that Llano sampling has been according to plan, and have started sending samples to customers. The first two Fusion products - Llano and Ontario - are well on track for production by end 2010, with release scheduled for early 2011.

Llano is basically a 32nm APU which combines four Phenom II cores with 400 DX11 SPs from the HD 5000 family, for a powerful mainstream CPU+GPU solution. Basically, what we are looking at is a HD 5670 type GPU and a Phenom II quad core CPU in one die - a remarkable achievement.

AMD: Over 6 million ATI graphics cards sold
At AMD's quarterly financial conference, CEO Dirk Meyer mentioned that ATI's Radeon HD 5000 series have sold over 6 million graphics cards in just over two quarters. "In graphics, we shipped a total of over six million DirectX 11 enabled units to date, and expanded the family into the mainstream and value segments," said Dirk Meyer.

ATI's Radeon HD 5000 generation was released on September 23rd 2009 with the Radeon HD 5850 and HD 5870 cards. However, poor supply compounded with strong demand meant the cards were sold out within a week, and remained largely unavailable till December.

AMD Phenom II X6 listed in NA E-tail
Following few price leaks in Asia and Europe, AMD's upcoming Phenom II X6 has been listed in well-known North American e-tailer Provantage, as well as Howard Computers. The two launch CPUs are the 1090T BE and the 1055T, clocked at 3.2 GHz and 2.8 GHz respectively.

Provantage lists the 1090T at $319, a tad above the expected $300 price point. Curiously, a typo marks Phenom as "Phenon". Howard Computers lists both the 1090T and the 1055T. They price the 1090T at a much higher $340, whereas the 1055T comes in at a more reasonable $240, but still higher than expected.

AMD reports $257 million profit
Following Intel's amazing Q1 2010 financials, AMD have reported a strong showing. Despite the typical off-season, AMD posted a rare profit - and this time it didn't need a billion+ dollar settlement. Furthermore, Q1 2010 marks the first year of AMD reporting without GlobalFoundries. The net result is a $257 million Net Income, which is AMD's highest for what seems like several generations.

AMD's revenue of $1.57 billion is only slightly down on Q4 2009 - and a lot higher than expectations considering the normal Q1 drops.
