Western Digital officially intros its new VelociRaptor hard :: Posted by THRASHER2
SSDs are certainly sexy (some of them at least) but if you still can't let go of the ol' spinning platter then you'll certainly drool over the new VelociRaptor hard drives from Western Digital. Codenamed VR200M, the VelociRaptor '2.0' drives come in 450GB and 600GB capacities (150GB and 300GB may come about too), and have a working speed of 10,000 RPM (rotations per minute), 32MB of cache, a SATA 6.0 Gbps interface, a MTBF of 1.4 million hours, a sound output during seeking of 37 dBA, and an average latency of 3ms.

Western Digital's speedy HDDs include the NoTouch ramp load technology that reduces recording head and media wear, are ROHS compliant, and have a 2.5-inch form factor but are first served up with a 3.5-inch mounting frame (IcePack) that acts as a heatsink too.

"WD is a leader in the performance and reliability of enterprise SATA hard drives," said Tom McDorman, vice president and general manager of WD's enterprise business unit. "Demand for performance combined with an increase in capacity continues to rise and WD is the leader in this category. WD customers can rely on the new WD VelociRaptor to deliver high performance under the harshest conditions, while continuing to keep user data safe."

The 3.5-inch, IcePack-equipped 450GB and 600GB VelociRaptor VR200M drives are backed by a 5-year warranty and are now shipping with recommended price tags of $299 and $329, respectively. The 2.5-inch models are expected to ship later this quarter.

Corsair ® Expands Dominator ® :: Posted by THRASHER2
Corsair® Expands Dominator® Family with New Ultra-High Density 16GB and 24GB Memory Kits

– Unmatched combination of speed and density ushered in with 1600MHz modules –

FREMONT, California, April 6, 2010 — Corsair, a worldwide supplier of high performance computer and flash memory products, today announced new 16GB and 24GB Dominator DDR3 memory kits for workstation-level computers. These DRAM kits feature a clock speed of 1600 MHz and a CAS latency of nine cycles.

The introduction of these new kits expands CorsairÂ’s worldwide award-winning Dominator memory family, providing an exciting new level of performance for data-intensive computing applications.

Corsair’s 24GB Dominator DDR3 memory kit has been rigorously qualified and tested in platforms based on the Intel® X58 chip set. It is designed for use with three-channel CPUs such as the Core™ i7 980X processor. The 16GB Dominator DDR3 memory kit is designed for use on dual channel platforms based on the P55 chip set. Both module kits include Corsair’s patented DHX+ technology, and feature racing-blue highlights and fins.

“We continue to see increasing demand for high density solutions from programmers, scientists, videographers, and other data-intensive users,” stated John Beekley, VP of Technical Marketing at Corsair. “These new 1600MHz modules will enable a new level of processing speed for handling these large data sets.”

The 16GB and 24GB 1600MHz Dominator DDR3 memory kits are available immediately from the Corsair Store.

About DHX+ Technology
Corsair's innovative DHX+ technology uses specially designed, high-quality heatsinks and a custom-designed PCB that allows both the front and rear of the memory ICs, and the printed circuit board itself, to be cooled. DHX+ technology also allows for the cooling fins to be removed, allowing for a range of modular cooling accessories including extended heatsink fins, the Corsair Cooling™ Hydro Series H30 water cooling block and Corsair Cooling™ Ice Series T30 sub-ambient cooling subsystem, which cools the memory up to 20°C below room temperature for maximum overclocking performance. Corsair DRAM modules with DHX and DHX+ are covered by US Patent number 7,606,034.

About Corsair
Founded in 1994, Corsair specializes in premium, high-performance peripherals and components for personal computers. CorsairÂ’s award-winning products are the delight of the worldÂ’s most demanding hardware enthusiasts. For more information, visit www.corsair.com.

Western Digital's VelociRaptor VR200M hard drive :: Posted by THRASHER2
Every time WD has released a new Raptor, the performance bar for desktop hard drives has been raised. But the new 600GB VelociRaptor VR200M enters a market teeming with SSDs whose split-millisecond access times blunt its previously formidable spindle speed advantage. Can the new Raptor keep up?

Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB Review :: Posted by THRASHER2
"The new VelociRaptor 600GB offers great performance at a *lower*
cost/GB than its predecessor. While most of the specs match the older 300GB
model, the increased platter density gave a nice boost to sequential
transfer rates. The dual core processor and SATA 6Gb/sec interface are
welcome improvements to the Raptor line, but since HDD's barely challenge
SATA 3Gb/sec, the move to 6Gb/sec in this arena appears to be more
future-proofing than ground breaking at present."

WD VelociRaptor 600GB SATA 6Gbps Hard Drive Review :: Posted by THRASHER2
"The Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB hard drive (WD6000HLHX) has been rumored for many months now and it is great to finally see the drive come to market. The drive doesn't bring many new features other than SATA 6Gbps and the larger 32MB cache to the table, but WD has double the capacity of this 10,000 RPM drive series and did manage to boost performance as advertised. In fact we noticed more than a 15% performance increase in some benchmarks, which was great to see. It was also interesting to see how large the performance gap has come between hard drives and solid-state drives. The VelociRaptor series is an enthusiast class product and is ideal for those PC users who don't want to jump into the SSD market right now. The new 450GB and 600GB VelociRaptors would also make for great secondary storage drives to those that have an SSD as their primary storage drive..."

NZXT Beta Evo Chassis Review @ OCIA.net :: Posted by THRASHER2
"NZXT is rather new to the case business in comparison to names like Cooler Master or Antec, but they have been taking both companies by storm with their award winning Classic series. Today I've got the pleasure of taking a look at the NZXT Beta Evo from the Classic series. This case was purchased by myself for my rig to replace an Antec 300. When I originally saw the roll-out of the NZXT Beta, I was rather surprised that a $50 case, considered part of the budget market, was going to have a black interior and cable management abilities. At the time I was running the Antec 300, but I wanted a case with a bottom-mounted PSU as that had become my preference in design."

PowerColor Radeon HD 5750 Go Green @ HT4U.net :: Posted by THRASHER2
The PowerColor Radeon HD 5750 Go Green was a rumor in the web for quite a while, but finally it is here now. The graphics card that sails under the Green flag comes without any separate power supply port. Although this created skeptical looks, we were surprised. HT4U.net invites to experience how Radeon HD 5800 technology can be combined with a Radeon HD 5750 to create an uncommon graphics card.
