Both Nvidia & AMD gain PC graphics market share in Q1
According to the latest report from Jon Peddie Research, the PC graphics market in Q1 reached 104.62 million shipped units (both discrete and integrated graphics), down 18% sequentially but up 44% compared to the same period of 2009.

New cheaper FirePro cards from AMD
AMD has introduced five new ATI FirePro professional graphics cards aimed at all market segments. The company recently launched the V8800, the industry's fastest professional graphics card to date, but the new products are aiming at somewhat less demanding pros. The V7800 is based on the HD 5850, but it offers 2GB of memory and Eyefinity support for up to three 30-inch displays. The Mid range V5800 packs 1GB of memory and it can also drive up to three displays, and AMD claims that it's twice as fast as its predecessor.

Sony discontinues production of floppy discs
Sony has announced that they will be discontinuing all sales of the 3.5-inch floppy disc in Japan starting in 2011, effectively killing off the three decade old disk type. The company helped pioneer the disk in 1981, introducing the technology that year and then starting to sell the discs in 1983. At its height in the year 2000, Sony shipped 47 million disks, but that number has progressively fallen, reaching just 8.5 million in 2009.

Android & Apple App Store to support PayPal
PayPal in a recent presentation said it would offer its system to pay for in-app purchases on both Android and the iPhone. The company's Benelux regional manager, Dennis van Allermeersch, said PayPal had developed a method that would let users sign into the service and pay without having to use an existing system like Google Checkout or, purportedly, an iTunes account. Van Allermeersch claimed that the method would be allowed in the iPhone's App Store.
