MSI prepares cheaper Hydra motherboard
For later this quarter MSI is preparing two new motherboards featuring the Hydra SoC (System-on-Chip) from Lucidlogix, the 870A-GD60 Hydra seen at CeBIT and the model pictured below which is known as P55-GD88 Hydra or P55A Hydra. Like the Big Bang Fuzion (check out our review here (Reviews/Motherboards/MSI-Big-Bang-Fuzion-With-a-Little-Help-From-a-Hardware-Friend.html)), the P55A Hydra makes use of Intel's P55 chipset but it only has Hi-c CAPs for the CPU and not the whole board. It also includes two (as opposed to three on the Fuzion) PCI-Express x16 slots, enabling 2-way SLI, 2-way X-mode (Nvidia + AMD GPU) and CrossFireX setups.

Asus readies Calpella-based PL30JT business laptop
Asus has announced the upcoming European introduction of the PL30JT-RO030X, a 13.3-inch business laptop that makes use of Intel's Calpella platform and supports Nvidia's Optimus graphics switching technology. Weighting in 1.7kg, Asus' new laptop has a brushed aluminum palm rest, a multi-gesture touchpad and a 13.3-inch (1366x768) LED-backlit anti-glare display.

PC market gone up 24% in Q1
As revealed by the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker report, the first three months of this year have seen global PC shipments reach 79.1 million units, up a very healthy 24.2% compared to the recession-hit Q1 of 2009. The solid results are due to better-than-predicted sales of both desktop and portable PCs, the latter category being the main growth catalyst.

ATI Catalyst 10.4 preview
AMD has just released the ATI Catalyst 10.4 preview for Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP for the ATI Radeon HD 5000 product line. The reason they’ve released ATI Catalyst 10.4 early is because they want to get this driver into the hands of every Battlefield: Bad Company 2 user out there ASAP, as the ATI Catalyst 10.4 driver includes a performance optimization that solves the long load times for new maps.
