ASUS UL50VF: Optimus in Action
ASUS is the first one to implement new technologies for God-knows-which-time around, so it’s no big surprise that they were the ones to ship us the first notebook with NVIDIA Optimus technology. We’ve recently described this technology in detail on our website, so we won’t delve into too much detail as far as its theoretical background is concerned, instead rather just reminding you of the basic concepts it’s based on and then switch to our impressions from the hands-on experience.

Sempron 140 overclocked to 5.5 GHz
This example shows that you don’t need loads of cash to purchase a blazing fast CPU, but rather get busy and push your CPU to the limits, even if it is a modest single core. Madshrimps.be has performed a nice little experiment to see just how much juice can one squeeze out of a €35 CPU, and the results are excellent.

Opera Mini is OK for iPhone, says Apple
Opera revealed the surprise news that Opera Mini for the iPhone has been approved by Apple. The app is the first not to use a WebKit-based rendering engine and promises to speed up browsing significantly while also cutting back on bandwidth. Much like other versions, it sends websites through a proxy that compresses as much as 90 percent of the data; nearly all load faster as a result. Besides speed, Opera Mini also promises features that are normally reserved for the desktop, such as a visual browsing of favorites known as Speed Dial (Top Sites in Safari 4). The app isn't yet available through the App Store but should be available for free within the next two days.

Corsair Flash Padlock 2 USB Drive
Once in a while, though, someone spices things up. Corsair did just that at CES 2007 with the original Flash Padlock, a USB thumb drive whose contents users could lock by setting a code on the device itself. Today, we're looking at the 8GB Flash Padlock 2, a smaller, more rugged, and purportedly more secure successor that retains its predecessor's principal feature—and lets you reset the code if your memory ever fails you ... HIS HD 5870 iCooler V Turbo
HIS has now released a HD 5870 that is completely custom designed. It uses their iCooler V heatsink together with a customized PCB design that allows more cost effective production. The clock speeds have received a small bump with 25 MHz, which is probably not going to make much of a difference in benchmarks. A clear highlight of this card is the included game bundle: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which is one of the recent AAA titles. Corsair Obsidian 700D Chassis
Last year a new case vendor hit the scene with a familiar name: Corsair. Famous for their memory solutions and even SSDs, the company released the Obsidian Series 800D to some pretty ecstatic press and customers. When I reviewed the case originally it quickly became my favorite enthusiast class option even though it was a bit more expensive than most other cases on the market. Corsair Nova 128GB SSD
This drive is based on Indilinx's Barefoot controller but uses 34nm Intel NAND (other NAND vendors are supported as well). It's Corsair's version of the G.Skill Falcon II we looked at a while back, or OCZ's Solid 2. I'm running it through our test suite now, expect to see results in Bench in the next couple of days...
