According to IDC, the netbook market has slowed a bit its growth pace in Q1 of this year but it still managed to top 4.8 million shipped units. This result is 33.6% higher than the 3.6 million recorded in Q1 2009 but back then the on-year increase was a massive 872%.

The new Western Digital VelociRaptor family of super-fast hard drives is closing in and will likely enter the enterprise and enthusiast markets later this quarter. The upcoming drives, which have a 2.5-inch form factor and will also be available with a 3.5-inch mounting frame (IcePack reloaded) doubling as a heatsink, will have capacity of 150GB, 300GB, 450GB and 600GB. They'll also feature a working speed of 10,000 rotations per minute, a 32MB of cache, a SATA 6.0 Gbps interface, a 3ms latency and a sustained transfer speed of 145 MB/s.

Intel CULV chips delayed due to mobile Core i3 and i5
According to unnamed industry sources, Intel, urged by Acer's halt of production of its ultra-thin notebooks, has delayed launching new ultra-thin notebook processors until the summer. Acer will instead focus on building Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 TimelineX ultraportables. The same sources added that Intel may delay the CULV processors even further depending on market demand come summertime.

Windows Phone 7 Series is now just Windows Phone 7
Microsoft has made a short and somewhat comical announcement using Twitter, saying that it will drop the word Series from the name of its latest mobile operating system, which will now become known as just Windows Phone 7. This is most likely to be done in order to simplify the software to customers, as it originally suggested there are various builds or versions of the OS available.
