Software VP At Palm Walks Away, Others Kept On With Bonuses
Something is up at Palm. There's no more debate about that. Earlier in the week, there were all sorts of relatively believable reports that Palm was up for sale, with Lenovo and others being named as potential buyers. Of course, Palm has been struggling for years now in an attempt to reinvent itself, so hearing that the company may be purchased wasn't all that shocking. But this adds quite a bit of legitimacy to all of those beliefs, and moreover, it could indicate that something major is about to happen really

Addonics Brings Any USB Accessory Online Via NAU Adapter
How often have you wished that just about every PC peripheral you have could be placed on a network in order to be accessed from anywhere? Even if you've never considered it until now, doesn't it sounds like a particularly great idea? Addonics, a company known for pushing out unusual adapters that make lives all the better, has just issued a device that does just that: the NAU. Short for Network Attached USB Adapter, this device looks (and works) a bit like the PogoPlug. But the main draw here is its ability

TruLink 60GHz WirelessHD Kit Cuts The Cord To Your Blu-ray Player
One of the most promising technologies to emerge over the past five years has been wireless transfers of high-bandwidth devices. Wireless HD and wireless HDMI both hold a great deal of hope for the way HD video is distributed, and while Intel's Wireless Display technology touches on it somewhat, we haven't really seen any shipping products using it. Over on the home entertainment end, things are somewhat more lively. Cables To Go is a company that has been dabbling in this area since the early days, and they

Software VP At Palm Walks Away, Others Kept On With Bonuses
Something is up at Palm. There's no more debate about that. Earlier inthe week, there were all sorts of relatively believable reports thatPalm was up for sale, with Lenovo and others being named as potentialbuyers. Of course, Palm has been struggling for years now in an attemptto reinvent itself, so hearing that the company may be purchased wasn'tall that shocking. But this adds quite a bit of legitimacy to all ofthose beliefs, and moreover, it could indicate that something major isabout to happen really soon.

According to paperwork filed with the Securities and ExchangeCommission here in the U.S., one of Palm's most notable and importantsenior vice presidents has announced that he will be stepping down onApril 23rd. That would be Michael Abbott, SVP of software and services, who will be looking elsewhere for employment starting in the new week.Mr. Abbott was hugely instrumental in the development of WebOS, whichis the operating system that currently runs on the Pixi, Pixi Plus, Preand Pre Plus. It was one of the first mobile operating systems to fullysupport multi-tasking, and many say that it beats Apple's iPhone OS inmany ways. But obviously, he knows something that we the people do not.

No Senior VP leaves his or her comfortable corner office without areally good reason. It's hard to find upper-level jobs such as that, and there has to be something going on within for him to just up andleave. Of course, maybe the timing is just coincidental and he's inneed of more time to spend with his family, but given all the otherrumors surrounding Palm, we're beginning to feel like the fire can't befar from the smoke. Another interesting point is that Palm has had todole out packages worth around $250000 to other high-ranking officialsin the company in order to keep them onboard, signaling that moreindividuals than just Abbott may have wanted out. Palm may be close toa deal, thus trying to keep those individuals on so that the purchasingcompany has a firm foundation from which to build on.

There's really no accurate way to tell what the state of Palm is rightnow. We're guessing the company is in flux, and we're guessing thatsomeone may be just about to buy them. We suspect the answers to thenagging questions will be coming sooner rather than later, but Palm aswe know it may not exist by the end of the month. That's a weirdconcept to wrap your head around.

These all feature a somewhat similar design to existing BenQ screens, with a glossy black bezel, a futuristic stand and a widescreen stance. Each display has a 12,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 5ms response time, the company's own Senseye Human Vision Technology along with a variety of connectors. Across the line, there's DVI, VGA, audio-in, a headphone jack and some models even have integrated speakers.

Unlike the CCFL technology used in the LCD monitors, the GL Series uses energy efficient LED backlighting panels, therefore, in comparison to conventional CCFL monitors, the GL Series consumes less power (14,3%); and even less (39.3%) whilst in Eco mode. The GL2030/A/AM/M will be available world wide in mid-April, whereas the GL930/A/AM/M; GL931/A/AM/M; GL2230/A/AM/M and GL2231/A/M/AM will be available worldwide in July; pricing has not yet been made public.

Any benefit from 8GB of RAM (4x2GB)?

Hey guys,

With the prices of DDR2 RAM modules going down all the time and getting very cheap, I was thinking about adding additional 4GB to my system.

I currently have 2 sticks of 2GB each of OCZ Vista Performance Gold Edition PC2-6400 800MHz 5-5-5-18.

I was thinking about buying additional 2 sticks of exactly the same brand/model. Few questions though:

1) Will I have any benefit from having 8GB of RAM on my Vista Ultimate 64-bit OS? If so, where will I see/get the biggest improvement over 4GB?

2) Do you think I'll be able to keep my current Q6600 3.2GHz overclock with FOUR (4) sticks of 2GB each in all FOUR memory slots? Right now I have my memory @5-5-5-15 instead of @5-5-5-18 and I'm using only 2 slots of ram...

3) Does having 4x2GB instead of 2x4GB affect performance in any way? I don't want to get rid of my current 2x2GB sticks and I'm not planning to upgrade to more than 8GB in the next year or so...

Your advice will be appreciated...

Cables To Go is a company that has been dabbling in this area since the early days, and they know a thing or two about getting your episode of Hulu from that notebook to the HDTV.

The newest product hitting their shelves is the TruLink 60GHz WirelessHD Kit, which enables wireless transmission of a high-definition true 1080p signal between a television and HDMI components such as a Blu-ray player, set-top box, computer or gaming console. This kit is made to connect a video device to a TV without an HDMI cable in between; it's really that simple. If you're in a place that running wires would be difficult, this is your solution. The plug-and-play solution requires no software or drivers to be installed and no setup beyond simply connecting the transmitter and receiver to the television and HDMI component.

Currently, the one-port (so, one device at a time) device is up for pre-sale at $499.99, which is far lower than the $1000+ that some companies are charging for similar setups. It will ship in early June.

“WirelessHD is on the cusp of huge growth, and the Cables To Go kit with its quality, features and price point is well positioned to be a strong player in the market,” said Gary Hess, vice president of innovation for Lastar, parent company of Cables To Go. “This is true not only for the consumer market, but our relationships and experience in additional vertical markets will help us lead adoption and growth.”

Additional features of the WirelessHD Kit from Cables To Go include:

  • Wireless transmission of true 1080p signals
  • Plug and play with no software, drivers or setup required
  • Auto Power function automatically turns off attached component when transmitter is turned off
  • WirelessHD 1.0 certified for compatibility with other certified products
  • HDMI 1.3 compatible
  • Supports 7.1 channel surround sound
