Microsoft's Project Natal might change gaming as we know it when it launches this holiday season, much like Nintendo's Wii did just a few years back. There's no question that a lot of technology has been involved in creating a system that could actually recognize human movements and transform them into console commands, and now PrimeSense is coming clean and saying that some of what makes Natal tick is due to their technology. This marks the first time that Microsoft has gone public about any of the technology

Who Needs HTML5? Chrome 5 Integrates Flash Plug-In
In somewhat of a surprise move, Google this week announced it has begun collaborating with Adobe to improve the Flash Player experience in Google Chrome, and as such, has bundled the plug-in with the latest version of Chrome in the developer channel. The implications here are potentially huge. Let's not forget that Google owns YouTube, so the move to integrate Flash into Chrome makes complete sense. But it also puts Google somewhat at odds with the HTML5 team hoping to move away from proprietary plug-ins in favor

Logitech Breaks The $50 Barrier With Harmony 300 Universal Remote
Universal remotes have been a product owned almost exclusively by high-end home cinema users for years now. Most average TV viewers didn't see a need to consoldate their remotes into one, and they definitely didn't feel like paying extra to do so. Logitech's Harmony line has long been viewed as the best in the industry, but even those were rather expensive in the eyes of Joe Six-Pack.Today, even Mr. Joe can get in on the party. The Harmony 300 sets an all new bar, but it actually lowers a bar rather than raising

ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition Gaming
Back in September of last year, just prior to the official arrival of the Radeon HD 5800 series, we first wrote about AMD's ATI Eyefinity technology and hinted at the fact that cards with six display outputs were coming. Since then, we had seen AMD's 6-output Radeon in action at a number of events, but hadn't been given the opportunity to evaluate one in the lab on our own test hardware, nor had we been informed of an official planned release date.
It turns out, Microsoft had implement an artificial limit of four monitors in Windows 7 with the final release of the OS, and AMD had to find a way to workaround that limit with their drivers. Although, we sure the supply issues AMD had to contend with played some sort of role in the delay as well.
Regardless, the ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition is here now, and we've got one in house for testing. We paired the card up with six, 22" Dell LCD Panels in a 3x2 configuration, with a max resolution of 5760x2160 and ran a number of popular games. Performance data and our experience with the Eyefinity 6 Edition is available on the pages ahead. For now, check out the specs and hardware and then move on to bask in the insanity...

Apple Delays iPad Preorder Ship Dates
Apple began taking preorders for the iPad on March 12 and promised to get the device in users' hands by April 3. Although customers who placed preorders with Apple before March 27 will receive the device by the store launch date (assuming Saturday delivery is available in your area), users who were slow at placing preorders won't get the device until more than a week later.

Apple didn't give a reason for the shipping delay but did say that customers who want an iPad on April 3 can still preorder the device for in-store pickup or purchase the device at stores that day.
The iPad that will be available on April 3 will only connect to Wi-Fi networks. It will cost between $499 and $699 for various storage capacities. If you're more interested in a 3G model that will connect to cellular networks, you'll have to wait until later in April and be willing to pay $629 - $829, depending on model chosen. International customers will also have to wait until later in April.

Intel Unveils Nehalem-EX 8-Core Xeon 7500 Muscle Chip
Intel launched its much-anticipated Nehalem-EX processor today; the new chip could redefine performance at 4P and above. Nehalem-EX, aka Beckton, aka Xeon 6500/7500 is Nehalem at full throttle; Beckton is an eight-core/16-thread processor with up to 24MB of L3 cache or ~3MB per core compared to Nehalem's 2MB/core design. It supports up to four QPI links for glueless design implementations and features a quad-channel memory controller capable of controlling up to 16 DIMMs per socket. Intel has released a number of SKUs with different core counts, one without Hyper-Threading, varying amounts of L3 cache, and clockspeeds ranging from 1.73GHz-2.26GHz for the Hyper-Threaded CPUs and 2.66GHz one model of the new Xeon family that doesn't support it.Â
Beckton, like Magny-Cours, is an evolutionary step forward; it's the CPU's interconnect architecture that makes it revolutionary. Prior to Beckton, if you wanted a four-core Xeon motherboard, you used a chipset with a configuration that looked like this:

Beckton changes everything.

Intel's new core now uses an AMD-style point-to-point interconnect in the 4P space and above; a move that could cut access latencies by an order of magnitude in some cases. At 16 DIMMs per socket, the CPU is built for massive big iron deployments; Intel specifically noted it'll be deploying Beckton in 256-socket configurations and above. While Beckton should theoretically plug into any motherboard that supports Core i7 Xeons, Intel is clearly targeting enterprise servers, HPC clusters, and large-scale virtualization efforts.
Yesterday we talked about AMD's new Opteron strategy and how the company has positioned its 8-12 core processors to challenge Intel in the 2P-8P market. Everything we said there still holds; Intel's new eight-core Xeon 7500/6500 processors offer incredible performance and even better scaling than AMD's Magny-Cours, but they're positioned for extremely high-end markets and socket configurations. The two companies will cross swords from time to time, but the price premium and raw performance of the Xeon 7500 series will create a buffer zone between the two architectures. We don't have 1K unit pricing yet, but you can bet these babies won't come cheap.

Beckton, as compared to dual-core Netburst, 65nm Core 2 Quad, and 45nm/Six-Core Dunnington.
Beckton's topology allows the CPUs to work at their full bandwidth.

Amazon is offering the XL 335S, XL 340S and XL 540S models bundled with Lifetime Traffic or Map Updates, or both depending on consumer preference. These models will be designated with an M, T or TM accordingly. The MSRP premium for Lifetime Traffic Updates is $30, as is Lifetime Map Updates ($30). Combined, it's a $60 premium price. A 57 year old male was arrested this past weekend on a "felony charge of littering more than 500 pounds of waste."

Upon discovering the boat, Barnes noticed that the vehicle identification number and registration had been removed, so he turned to Google Earth to dig deeper. He was searching for "anyone who had that boat at the time the satellite image was taken," according to Marc Ward, a spokesman for the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office. A while later, he noticed the boat in a man's yard a bit earlier, and when confronting him, the man fessed up. Now, the 57 year old faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

NOVELL OWNS UNIX! YAY!!!
Seven years of FUD and litigation from SCO, finally over. The jury verdict today rules that Novell owns the Unix copyrights. This also means that SCO has no standing whatsoever in their suit against IBM - and eliminates all the doubt SCO was trying to put to companies adopting Linux.
In retrospect, Microsoft's $50M+ in secret funding of the litigation was probably a damned good investment given the seven year run.

Router for web hosting and networking
Guys,
I'm not sure if I use the correct term.
I have three PCs and would like to share files among them. One machine will host a public website. I don't know if need a router or gateway or anything like that. One machine is Win2000 and two others are Win98.
My hardware skill level is pressing the power button on or off.
After doing some research on the Internet, I found the following stuff might be what I need. Could anyone please give me some advise on choosing the product that is best for my needs?
My DSL provider is Earthlink, and someone posted on the newsgroup said D-Link DI-604 is not compatible with Earthlink. This really confused me how could a router incompatible with a DSL provider?
Here are something I found on the Internet, I think they are Cable/DSL router

SMC - SMC7008ABR
SMC - SMC7208BSR
D-Link - DI-604
D-Link - DI-804HV
Netgear - RP-114
Belkin - F5D52304
Asante - FR3004C
----------------------------------------------
Please give me advise on which one is better for a three PCs network and hosting a public website?
Thanks,
Nitti

PS3 Will Get a Firmware 3.21... To Remove OtherOS Feature.
Sony has just gave an announcement that on April, (considering if its April's fool or not) that the next updated for the PS3 will remove option to "Intall OtherOS"
The details about the up coming update are here: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/03/28/ps3-firmware-v3-21-update/
Several users on the Sony forums already complain and they are upset about this decision but it seems Sony is doing this since the famous hacker called "George Hotz" hacked the PS3 installing and using Linux and now they are taking away this feature for security reasons.
Do you think will worthy to remove another feature to the PS3? Sony already took out Backward Compatibility to read PS2 games, the 4 USB leaving only 2 USB and the Card Readers Unit.
There are even users who are promoting not to update to firmware 3.21.
I have the PS3 (Fat Version with 2 USB) I had never use the feature "OherOS" becuase if I want to use a different OS like Linux or whatever you can use it on PC and thats it.

The Mail-In Rebate Scam (Revisited)

First Linksys screwed me, then Raidmax, and I swore I would never do the MIR thing again. Kudos to Patriot - they are a first-class outfit, IMO! The memory works great, too.
