Is 200 miles to the gallon Equivalency Good?
The Aptera EV touts that in its specs. Also the California based company is touting that the time is right to get its 3-wheeled wonder out on the streets. The Aptera concept is nothing new. It was mentioned back in December 2008 here in a thread on [H]ardOCP. Aptera would also have to go up against big automakers like Nissan, Ford and General Motors, which are planning to launch electric cars soon. Small players like Tesla Motors already sell them. Just a quick update to the ongoing saga between ex-Infinity Ward staffers and Acticvision. Activision made comments that the "top talent" is paid millions by Activision. More and more people are jumping the Infinity Ward ship and heading around the corner to a new upstart backed by EA. "We have an independent studio model that provides them a lot of creative freedom while we take care of the back office stuff so they can focus on making games. Comments

Is the iPad an iPhone? UX Designers say No.
So we have heard the same phrase over and over, "Wow look at the huge iPhone!" Yet this seems not the case to User experience (UX) designers. These are the guys who make your applications loathed or loved for various reasons. "First, we really found that it's not just a larger iPhone," said Ken Case, founder and CEO of The Omni Group. "There's room for content....It's a larger iPhone the way a swimming pool is a larger bathtub." Comments

When Bad Things Happen to Good Laptops
A pretty pitiful sight.... what can bring such destruction to an innocent laptop. There are forces loose in this world that are beyond description in their evilness. Enjoy the carnage. Portable by design, a laptop computer is a delicate, intricate machine that respond poorly to flames, freefalls, and blunt-force trauma (accidental or otherwise). And unlike a smartphone, which fits snugly in a pocket or pouch, a laptop is bulky and relatively awkward to carry. In short, it's a disaster waiting to happen. Warning: If you're offended by graphic images of singed silicon and eviscerated electronics, click away now! Brave souls, continue. Comments

Hydrogen Still in the Eco-Car Race
Israeli scientists along with independent investors have moved hydrogen powered cars a step closer to becoming a production reality. Hydrogen would be the first best choice for alternative energy due its ready availability, clean burning and only by-product being clean water vapor. My only concern in the hinderance of this project is having a hydrogen test center named Bam. The system was unveiled in Berlin at a demonstration for The Associated Press at the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, known as BAM, which has been testing the materials since 2008 and has pronounced the system safe. Also attending was a representative of Italian-based Generali Insurance, which has invested $10 million in the project. While its backers call the technology a breakthrough, it is unlikely to gain traction without a large injection of capital to scale up development. It also would need a distribution system and the support of major car companies, which have poured billions of dollars into their own closely guarded research programs. Comments

Ebert Calls Kick-Ass Movie "Morally Reprehensible"
Based on the Marvel comic book characters, the movie has drawn criticism for it's overindulgence of violence and the use of children to delived that violence. Ebert says: "I know, I know. This is a satire. But a satire of what?" I'm wondering the same thing, even though I loved the Kick-Ass comic and assume I would love the movie as well. Should we be enjoying the violence dished out by Hit Girl? What is it about this violence that has an appeal? The Escapist's Movie Bob calls Kick-Ass fun despite its juvenile intentions, so Ebert might not be in the movie's target audience as he says, but a little piece of me still wonders why extreme violence perpetrated by pre-teens is entertaining to us. All I can say is Ebert hated it, I will probably like it, 'nuff said. Comments

New Tech Sees Dead People
A McGill University research team has developed a technique for utilizing different frequency lightwave lengths to locate buried bodies by camera images. This technology could be invaluable in locating mass graves in war torn areas or aid the authorities in locating missing persons. The applications are almost endless. Without extensive plant cover, the McGill University team will rely on longer wavelengths to find changes in soil chemistry. Besides fertilizing plants, a dead body releases chemicals that stain the soil above it, which the hyperspectral camera can detect. Comments
