88% of Firms Show Zeus Botnet Activity
And the scary statistic of the day is this. While I can't say that I am surprised, this is still scary none the less. Specifically, "domains individually representing 88 percent of the Fortune 500 were shown to have been accessed to some extent by computers infected by the Zeus Trojan," the study said. Among the stolen data found on the sites where infected computers drop the stolen data was compromised e-mail addresses from about 60 percent of the firms. Comments

Apple: An Evil Empire in the Making?
CIO Magazine asks the question "is Apple an evil empire in the making?" Goofy Star Wars references aside, the author does make some very valid points. Is the adored, charismatic Apple CEO Steve Jobs secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith in a black turtleneck? The buzz in the universe is that we're all being duped, like Jar-Jar Binks of the Senate Republic stupidly voting for our own enslavement. (Okay, no more Star Wars references.) Comments

Buy The Computer From The Movie WarGames
The original IMSAI 8080 computer from the movie WarGames is going to be sold soon. Something tells you none of us will be able to afford it but it would definitely make a great conversation piece. While the plans of the sale of the WarGames IMSAI 8080 are still in the works, it is Mr. Fischer's hope and expectation that it will be preserved as a "piece of historical significance" and that it may well prove to be the most expensive "PC" ever sold, with an appraisal of well over $25,000 in the personal computing and electronics field. I suspect that it may well prove much more valuable to movie prop collectors. Comments

Turning Web retailers into Tax Tattlers
Trying to collect taxes on internet sales might not be as easy as politicians would like. There are privacy issues, constitutional challenges, lawsuits, voter backlash and that's before a single vote is cast on the issue. An increasing number of politicians, concerned with shrinking budgets and eyeing continuing growth in e-commerce, want to force out-of-state retailers like Amazon.com, Overstock.com, and Blue Nile to tattle to tax collectors about how much in sales taxes their customers have avoided paying. Military Asserts Right to Return Cyber Attacks
Go ahead and launch a cyberattack against the U.S. militaryÂ…see what happens. Something tells me the term "returning fire in cyberspace" is code for "we will kick your ass." He added that while "this right has not been specifically established by legal precedent to apply to attacks in cyberspace, it is reasonable to assume that returning fire in cyberspace, as long as it complied with law of war principles ... would be lawful." Microsoft April 2010 Security Bulletin Release
Microsoft, as part of its regular security update cycle, released 11 security bulletins today. The company also posted a handy chart showing which operating systems are affected by what. If I am reading this correctly, Windows 7 users are okay for the most part but Windows 2000 / XP users should expect to catch on fire at any moment. Comments

Google Street View Blamed For Burglary
I am not sure how this guy can say Google Street View is responsible for his home being burglarized. Seriously, it's not like Street View provides a real-time streaming video of his house. Gordon Rayner said he believed criminals could have been using the service after he was alerted to the image, which clearly shows him standing next to his house in front of an open garage door. Inside the garage is a washing machine and a mountain bike, the latter of which has now been stolen. Comments
