U.S. GAO Raises Questions About Piracy Claims
The U.S. Government Accountability Office has released a forty one page report on the economic effects of counterfeit and pirated goods. The report raises questions about the methods used to estimate economic impact of piracy and calls for a better ways of measuring the actual impact piracy has on the industry. Three widely cited U.S. government estimates of economic losses resulting from counterfeiting cannot be substantiated due to the absence of underlying studies. Generally, the illicit nature of counterfeiting and piracy makes estimating the economic impact of IP infringements extremely difficult, so assumptions must be used to offset the lack of data. Efforts to estimate losses involve assumptions such as the rate at which consumers would substitute counterfeit for legitimate products, which can have enormous impacts on the resulting estimates. Because of the significant differences in types of counterfeited and pirated goods and industries involved, no single method can be used to develop estimates. Comments

3D TV is Bad For Drunk, Pregnant, Sleep Deprived Elderly Teenagers
Samsung is warning consumers about its 3D TVs. According to the warning message, 3D TV can be hazardous if you are too young, too old, pregnant, drunk, sleep deprived or a normal person. Normal, healthy people should take frequent breaks while gaming or watching TV or you will get headaches, dizziness, fatigued eyes and/or spontaneous combustion. Other than that, 3D TV is AWESOME!!!! "Pregnant women, the elderly, sufferers of serious medical conditions, those who are sleep deprived or under the influence of alcohol should avoid utilising the unit's 3D functionality. Please Do Not Change Your Password
A new study says that many security measures are a waste of time. Why? I don't know, I guess you'll have to read the original article (no password or log-in required). Just when you have them all sorted out, along comes another "urgent" directive from the bank or IT department — time to reset those codes, for safety's sake. And the latest lineup of log-ins you've concocted won't last for long, either. Some might temporarily stay in your head, others are jotted on scraps of paper and stuffed in a wallet. A few might be taped to your computer monitor in plain view (or are those are from last year's batch? Who can remember?). Comments
