Hewlett Packard is working with 40 year old technology to bring the computer industry into a virtual new age by utilizing memristors, a very old concept that could not be fabricated until 2008. Hewlett Packard? Really? Who'da thunk it..... "The processor and memory could be exactly the same thing," Dr Stan Williams of HP told BBC News. "That allows us to think differently about how computation could be done." Professor Leon Chua - the first person to propose memristors - said the work was "conceptually, just the tip of the iceberg". Comments

U.S. Based Companies Sued For Heat Pipe CPU Coolers
A company called American Technology, Inc. is suing a handful of companies that have been selling CPU coolers to the enthusiast crowd for years. Sounds like a joke, right? We'll this is no joke, the lawsuit is real, the defendants are real and, as with most lawsuits of this nature, the consumer will no doubt end up footing the bill in the end. Defendants have been and still are infringing the '512 Patent under 35 U.S.C. 271(b) by actively inducing direct infringement by end-user who operate and/or use cooling devices and assemblies that embody or otherwise practice one or more of the claims of the '512 Patent. Google Using Site Speed In Search Ranking
Google now says that it will be factoring in site speed when ranking sites in its search results. What does speed have to do with relevance? What do you think of the change? Speeding up websites is important آ— not just to site owners, but to all Internet users. Faster sites create happy users and we've seen in our internal studies that when a site responds slowly, visitors spend less time there. But faster sites don't just improve user experience; recent data shows that improving site speed also reduces operating costs. Like us, our users place a lot of value in speed آ— that's why we've decided to take site speed into account in our search rankings. Comments

Man Pays Internet Bill With Huge Cardboard Check
I'm not sure what the law is here in the states but this is a great idea (and legal too). Now, under the law, you can write a cheque on absolutely anything as long as it contains all of the relevant and correct information. Some people have even written cheques on cows (brings a whole new meaning to the word cash cow), although they're never too pleased to be locked in the bank vault. Comments

Internet Wins Out Over TV
Obviously you and I are going to pick the internet over TV every time but I was a bit surprised how many "normal" people made the same decision. I'm telling you, I think this internet thing is going to be big. For the first time, the Internet is the winner by a narrow margin: 49 percent said they would drop television, and 48 percent said they'd give up their Internet connection, according to a survey released Thursday by Arbitron Inc. and Edison Media Research. The survey included 1,753 Americans aged 12 and older. Comments

Intel Guru Says 3-D Internet Will Arrive In Five Years
The title of this article is a bit misleading because, even though the guy from Intel said 3D internet is possible in 5 years, he also said this: "The Internet may never go fully 3-D, but making 3-D environments broadly accessible is probably capable within five years," noted Koehl. "I think it remains to be seen but there are certain kinds of interactions people will want in two dimensions, like reading text. The things we'll do in three dimensions may be things that we don't do at all on the Internet today because it isn't feasible." Comments

iPhone OS 4.0 Jailbroken Within 24 Hours
Apple doesn't seem to be doing a very good job keeping their products from being cracked. Last week it was the iPad (here), this week it is the new iPhone OS 4.0...both cracked in less than a day. According to this video showing Cydia multitasking and this tweet by a member of the Dev Team, iPhone OS 4.0 has been jailbroken already. Then again, Apple may have left the doors wide open as a pre-launch red herring. Comments
