UPS Turns Data Analysis into Big Savings
UPS has turned to technology to get the most out of its trucks. Now, if they can just use technology to find my packages and get them delivered on time, we'd be golden. When you have an organization as large as UPS, with its armada of tens of thousands of brown trucks prowling the streets of the world to pick up and drop off packages, even the smallest inefficiencies can add up to substantial costs. The reverse is true, as well, of course, and that's why the company is in the middle of a long-term technology upgrade for its giant fleet of delivery vehicles that is designed to wring every possible efficiency out of the trucks. Australian Communications Minister on Censoring The Web
Australian Communications Minister Stephen Conroy talks at length about why his country should filter / censor the web. Asked what percentage of all of the nasty material on the internet his filters would block, Senator Conroy dodged the question, responding that his filters were "100 per cent accurate - no overblocking, no underblocking and no impact on speeds". Sharp Develops a 3D Screen for Mobile Gadgets
I hate to sound cliché but a 3D screen for mobile devices really could be the next big thing. I'm not sure I am too thrilled about this part though: To get the 3D illusion viewers must hold the screen about 30 centimeters in front of them -- about the same distance at which a cell phone or digital camera is typically held. If they get the angle right, they will see an image that appears to have depth; if they get it wrong they will see a blurred image that's difficult to decipher. Comments

iPad Mega Review Round-Up
For those of you that asked about iPad review coverage, here you go. How a device that can't run more than a single app at a time, has no webcam, no widescreen, no USB, no card slots, no flash and isn't upgradeable be declared better than a laptop is beyond meÂ…but apparently people are saying just that. Also, I picked this round-up because it has a handy highlight chart for those of you that don't want to read all the reviews. At least eight people got iPads from Apple pre-launch, three usual suspects plus some new faces. Their approaches are different, but the take-home remains the same: It's good. Here's the easiest way to digest all the iPad reviews at once. Comments

Man Arrested at LHC is from the Future
This story about some guy traveling back in time to today's date (he's from the future) to stop the LHC from killing us might not be so funny when it does kill us all. Police said Mr Cole, who was wearing a bow tie and rather too much tweed for his age, would not reveal his country of origin. "Countries do not exist where I am from. The discovery of the Higgs boson led to limitless power, the elimination of poverty and Kit-Kats for everyone. It is a communist chocolate hellhole and I'm here to stop it ever happening." Comments
