Everything USB
Reusable USB LCD Ring Box, a High-tech Marriage Proposal Idea

Well, this 20th century romance has got to evolve with the rest of us, but this may be taking it too far. This is a wired jewelry box that adds the functions of digital picture frame. The IVY CARAT jewelry box has a small 2" video screen and a speaker. You can load up pictures or video and audio via USB cable. The USB cable also charges the system up for playback at that special if not way too geeky moment. It's sized to house a ring or other small trinket and is controlled via buttons on the bottom.

The best thing about this is that it's completely reusable. So, if at first you don't succeed, you can continue to tweak and debug your technique until you reach the desire results. This should work great for serial husbands or highly technical philanderers, which may be an oxymoron. Please note that this will not make a suitable Top Gun accompaniment to your solo rendition of "You've lost that Lovin feeling". You still need to be a large group of attractive pilots, not the senior member of the local nerd herd. $125 is all you need to shell out to wrap your promise ring in this miniature rock concert. Best of luck if you feel like you need this prop to close the deal.

CMS ABSplus 1TB Portable Drive Guarantees Instant PC Recovery

CMS has a new portable hard drive that's petite and takes all the work out of backing up. More importantly, it makes the nasty part, restoring, much easier. The WD 2.5" 5,200-rpm drive is shock mounted in its enclosure for protection. They make the claim that the CMS ABSplus 1TB can run solely on bus power. The usual limit for USB drives able to run on bus power is around 640GB, so the veracity of this claim should be verified.

The software included is is BounceBack Ultimate, which is compatible with most current Windows versions. This portable software is easy to run on your PC and can make complete OS images. Should you suffer some sort of horrible tragedy, that is where the huge benefit of this system becomes apparent. The CMS ABSplus USB drive is bootable and can start a downed computer and either refresh the drive or image a new larger drive. Once the restore is finished, you should be able to restart the machine and be completely back to your old setup. Obviously, the ABSplus would be insanely better if it were USB 3.0. This all inclusive two-step process retails for $230 and is available now at their online store.

Print Your Own Flash Drives with TEAC P55 Thermal Printer

There's no shortage of CD/DVD printers, but never thought we would see one for flash drives. TEAC's P55 USB Key Printer has been adapted from its DVD counterpart to allow dye-sublimation thermal printing directly onto the surface of a thumbdrive. There's no mention the types of drives are compatible; though, TEAC did mention the supported media type is orbit-style swivel cap, which explains why all the freebie drives come with the same kind of cap.

The company touts "amazing photo-realistic clarity" with its 400dpi resolution, yet you can only print so much on such a small area of a USB key. TEAC claims print speed is approximately 50s per set (6 drives). At this rate, the $5300 (originally $7300) P55 should be able to produce 360 units should you spend an hour sitting in front of the printer waiting to swap in and out the drives. We can see why it's probably more practical and economical to leave the job to custom USB drive manufacturers unless you only plan on printing a variety of different images in a small quantity.
