
Microsoft loses second appeal in Word patent case
Microsoft has lost its second appeal against i4i, the Canadian company that sued them for willfully infringing one of its patents in Word 2003 and 2007. The dispute centers on some custom XML tagging features used by these applications, which are used for encoding and displaying information, and has already cost the software giant a sales injunction plus a potential $290 million in fines.

NPD: Xbox 360 tops console sales in February
For the first time since the launch of Halo 3 in 2007, Microsoft's Xbox 360 managed to outpace Nintendo's Wii to become the top selling gaming console in the U.S. for February. Overall the industry had a poor month with total sales down 15 percent from last year, according to NPD, but that didn’t stop Microsoft from moving 422,000 units during the month – up from 391,000 in 2009.

HP to launch "Let's Do Amazing" ad campaign this weekend
HP is preparing to launch an eight-week long, $40 million advertising blitz. Billed as "Let's Do Amazing," the ad campaign is HP's first in some five years, and the company has signed on some celebrity talent. Rapper Dr. Dre, comedian Rhys Darby, and photographer Annie Leibovitz are among those involved. Ads will rollout this weekend on TV, radio, print, and of course, the Internet.

AMD to take on Intel's Atom with lightweight Fusion chip
AMD reportedly plans to target the netbook market with a new processor in its Fusion line. The part will be in direct opposition to Intel's Atom, and to some extent, ARM's offerings. Unpatched Internet Explorer exploit hits the Web
Israeli security researcher Moshe Ben Abu has published the exploit code of an unpatched Internet Explorer security hole. With the help of a McAfee blog post, Abu pinpointed the vulnerability in about 10 minutes. Microsoft warned on Tuesday that the bug could allow an attacker to take control of a computer, and advised users of IE 6 and 7 to install version 8 as soon as possible.
