Google Adds Gesture Search to Android
Does typing a search query on your smart phone take too long? Google thinks it does, and to relieve the problem Google has introduced Gesture Search for phones running Android 2.0. Simply draw a letter on the screen, and it'll begin searching installed apps, music, contacts, and more. Draw a "M" to get a list items that contain that letter, and continue drawing letters to further narrow down the search. Simply swipe left to right to clear the query or swipe the other direction to remove the last letter.
In the past, handwriting like this required you to draw things a specific way. Google's Gesture Search appears to be a bit smarter and if your "A" and "H" looks like same, it will pull results for both. Additionally, Gesture Search will remember what you select based on your query and display those results first the next time you perform the same search.
Google Gesture Search is available from Google Labs for Android phones running 2.0 or higher and is limited to the US at this time.

Western Digital Launches First Consumer SSD
While Seagate and others have already pledged to enter the solid state drive market, Western Digital from the beginning has been slow about its adoption. The company has had a few trials with the enterprise market and the flash technology, and has seen some benefits in offering products to more of a wide consumer base. Due to this, the company has just released its new SiliconEdge Blue drive, which is made to tend to more of the enthusiast market while still keeping true to mainstream users. Sadly, performance was not as good as expected compared to the price when it was reviewed, but the new drive is still a decent attempt for Western Digital to offer a solid state drive to regular consumers. Hopefully the hard drive company makes more performance oriented solid state drive solutions in the future though, such as the Black series that is found on their traditional hard drives.
