Razer to show Mac users more love :: Posted by THRASHER2
Seeing as how Mac gamers exist, or at least will be officially documented once Valve delivers its Mac line-up, peripheral maker Razer has announced its full support for users of Apple hardware. This commitment will see Razer providing drivers for all its upcoming products - mice, keyboards and anything in between that needs software support.

"I'm very proud to say that at Razer, we are committed to supporting both Mac and PC gamers," said Robert 'Razerguy' Krakoff, president, Razer USA. "We are constantly working to increase driver support for Mac with our existing Razer products and have plans to release all of our new products with dedicated Mac and PC drivers. JooJoo tablet handled by the FCC, exposed using ION :: Posted by THRASHER2
Fusion Garage's JooJoo tablet is supposed to start shipping on March 25th but until it can make a move on US soil, it has to go through the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). This week, JooJoo did reach the FCC which opened it up a bit and revealed that the device is based on the first-gen ION platform.

The not very battery-friendly hardware combination within the tablet includes the 1.6 GHz Atom N270 CPU and the ION chipset packing GeForce 9400 graphics enabling Flash and HD video acceleration. The JooJoo sample seen by the FCC also included a 3G card which suggests Fusion Garage is thinking/planning of releasing a model with this functionality later on.

Other than ION, the 1.1kg table features a 12.1-inch (1366x768) touchscreen, 4GB of built-in flash storage, an accelerometer, WiFi support, and runs an UNIX-based operating system. Its price tag is $499.

Palit GeForce GTX 400 card boxes look nice and empty :: Posted by THRASHER2
Two more weeks until the GF100 launch and we still don't have much to go on, performance wise but at least we can 'admire' the boxes that will hold the upcoming cards (sorry, it's Friday). Below you can see the box art of Palit's GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 which goes for an engine theme with gold and silver color schemes.

Both boxes are inscribed with the amount of memory found on the cards inside - 1536MB for the GTX 480, 1280MB for the GTX 470, and list some of the main features provided like support for SLI, PhysX, CUDA and 3D Vision Surround. Interestingly, there's no mention of DirectX 11 but that's probably detailed on the back.

With a bit of luck you'll find Palit's GeForce GTX 400 series card on sale as of March 26 so be prepared (with cash of course).

Cebit 2010: Ridgeback and Copperhead

We had a chance to drop by Mushkin during Cebit and take some neat pictures of Mushkin's new memory kits. The new kit will be called Ridgeback, while the Copperhead is already well known as these massive heatsinks certainly leave an impression, especially if they are paired up with a Copperhead waterblock.

Mushkin prepares its new SSD :: Posted by THRASHER2
Cebit 2010: Sandforce based

In addition to its new memory kits, Mushkin is also working on a Sandforce based SSD as well. The Calypso SSD series will feature a slower, and thus cheaper, Sandforce SF-1200 controller.

The Calypso SSD series will be available in 64, 128 and 256GB capacities and will feature maximum speeds somewhere around 260MB/s. The SF-1200 controller has maximum IOPS of around 10,000 with 4k blocks. According to Mushkin, the new Calypso series should be cheaper than SSDs based on Indilinx controller, and a lot of manufacturers are eager to jump on this Sandforce bandwagon.

The new Calypso SSD series should start to appear in the market later this month or sometime early next month. As for the faster SF-1500 controller, Mushkin is still waiting to see the situation on the SSD market, but it will come sooner or later.

Dual Geforce 400 to come later :: Posted by THRASHER2
Fermi dual in a few months, at the earliest

It looks like dual Fermi wonÂ’t be coming anytime soon. A few partners have said that at this time they are not aware that there will be a dual Fermi card and if Nvidia decides to make one, it won't be close to March 27th's single GF100 launch.

Dual Fermi can be expected hopefully towards the end of Q2 2010 and the high thermal dissipation and complexity of cards are few reasons for this postponement. Nvidia would definitely like to have dual cards out, but it might take a little while before it happens.

A good news is that mainstream and entry level Fermi versions should be coming this summer, slightly delayed from its original plan, but for the Dual card, itÂ’s not certain when should it happen. Nvidia is not telling much to us or its partners either.

So in the next few months we guess that Radeon HD 5970 will remain the fastest card around and this is not something that Nvidia and its fearsome Jensen likes. You can be sure that Nvidia is not at all thrilled for this delay, but everything related to Fermi looks quite delayed and definitely doesn't sound like a walk in the park, but apparently it's possible.

Jensen sees Tegra 2 in all but Apple :: Posted by THRASHER2
Take that iPad

In its last interview with CNN, Nvidia's CEOJensen was asked about that nice little chip called Tegra. He said some things that we do know, for example that Tegra one is shipping in systems and that Tegra 2 chip is developed but someone has yet to announce a system based on it.

Since Jensen underlines that Tegra 2 can run great even with HD1080 video, can do great flash and still have multitasking and great battery life, Nvidia clearly believes that its Tegra 2 is better than ARM based Apple rebranded A4 chip. We know that this is coming and have mentioned it here and here.

When asked if Tegra 2 will get in the iPad, Jensen replied that it won't but he added that Tegra 2 will get to just about anyone else's tablet but not the ultra expensive device from Apple.

In summer 2009, when we last time talked to Jensen, he was aware that Apple was doing its own chip and we were not surprised since they have two top AMD/ ATI guys to lead these teams. We however hope that Apple's next generation can do a bit better than A4, as Tegra 2 is obviously far better.

Shuttle enters notebook bussiness :: Posted by THRASHER2
For medium and smaller OEMs

Although Shuttle didnÂ’t lack in new products on this yearÂ’s Cebit, the company had a few other nuggets of info showing that the company is serious with any business model they take up.

This time around, weÂ’re talking about notebook production for OEMs, which means that the notebooks will not actually come under Shuttle brand. The idea behind the move is to help smaller and medium brands/companies break into the notebook market, which promises some nice competition to the big dogs, especially knowing that Shuttle is the one orchestrating it.

So, the company will be offering notebooks with standardized components and different mainboards, chipsets and GPUs for 10Â’Â’ and 17.3Â’Â’ devices. Customers will be able to purchase notebooks carefully designed and tailored after their needs as long as the order exceeds 500 units.

Naturally, the number of options is ever expanding so the deal will include a choice of design, logo, battery, webcam, 3G/modem, keyboards and more. Such a move will make handling specific regions much easier, and without the need to turn to anyone but Shuttle, which will probably be a godsend to many an OEM.

WeÂ’ve caught up with Shuttle and took a few shots and if the initial showcase is anything to go by, we'll probably be hearing from Shuttle much more in the following months.

MSIÂ’s Wind Top AE2420 is great for art :: Posted by THRASHER2
As you can see

I have to admit I haven’t been a fan of AIOs, regardless of configurations, as I personally couldn’t find the reasoning behind the need for such products. I mean, let’s face it – they’re usually too expensive to justify a purchase for a kitchen computer or something similarly silly we’ve heard from various manufacturers who obviously forgot what kitchens are all about. (Chilling beer. sub.ed.)

The device in question was MSI’s Wind Top AE2420 – a 23.6’’ Full HD multi-touch widescreen based on a choice between Core i5 650 (3.2GHz) and i7 860 CPU (2.53GHz). It features ATI’s HD 5730 graphics with 1GB of DDR3 VRAM. It comes with USB 3.0 support and features 4GB of DDR3, 1TB SATA2 hard drive and runs on Windows 7.
