Verizon Wireless to launch mobile payment service

Verizon Wireless customers will soon be able to charge up to $25 a month in online purchases to their Verizon Wireless accounts.

The carrier today announced that the e-commerce payment service, based on services created by Danal will be launched later this spring.

Demo startups go for the cloud

Sixty-five companies will debut new, innovative technologies at Demo Spring 2010 in Palm Desert, Calif., this week, and not surprisingly there's a heavy focus on cloud computing.

Gender discrimination linked to poor project management

New research suggests that technically oriented women could face gender discrimination in their jobs at high-tech firms in part because of mismanaged projects.

Tech firms rely excessively on a "hero mindset" to save runaway coding projects that are poorly organized, and employees with family responsibilities -- often women -- are sacrificed as a result, according to the report.

Microsoft tests microblogging service for business users

Microsoft plans to start a small-scale pilot of a microblogging service aimed at business users that it has been experimenting with in Office Labs.

It didn't reveal many details of the service but said it has been testing it internally and the company is now looking for customers willing to participate in a pilot test.

Viridity's power management tool aims to boost data center efficiency

Startup Viridity Software is releasing a new tool on Monday to help companies keep track of the power being used by each piece of IT equipment in their data centers, with a view to improving energy efficiency.

It's one of a growing number of startups offering energy management tools for data centers, many of which are being forced to undertake costly expansion projects because they are running out of power at existing facilities.
