Venezuelan President Calls for Internet Regulation
Hugo Chavez is mad over the fact he has no control over the internet. How mad? Almost mad enough to get Sean Penn to call for jail time for journalists again. "The Internet cannot be something open where anything is said and done. Every country has to apply its own rules and norms," Chavez said. He cited German Chancellor Angel Merkel as having expressed a similar sentiment recently. Comments

Is the Future of the Internet Criminal in Nature?
All people look at different markers on whether some idea or technology will take off, make a difference, and maintain a foothold. Some even look at the bad guys to see if it is worthwhile, and by this standard the cloud is where it is at. One of the things that persuades me personally that the cloud is absolutely a viable model and has longevity is that it has already been adopted by criminals," Ferguson said. Comments

The IC3, Internet Crime Complaint Center, reported that cyberfraud is growing at a significant rate. The significance is more than doubling the losses in 1 year's time. These numbers are alarming as more and more information is getting shoved into the corners of the cyber-world. FTC Slams LifeLock with $11 Million Fine
We've all seen the commercials advertising LifeLock as the savior of identity theft and would pay out high sums of money if a breach occurred. Well a breach has occurred and it was a breach of trust on the part of LifeLock. Numerous court suits were filed in 2008 and now the FTC has stepped in. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is. The FTC charged that LifeLock's data was not encrypted, and sensitive consumer information was not shared only on a "need-to-know" basis. In fact, the agency charged, the company's data system was vulnerable and could have been exploited by those seeking access to customer information. In one of the largest FTC-state coordinated settlements on record, LifeLock and its principals will be barred from making deceptive claims and required to take more stringent measures to safeguard the personal information they collect from customers.
