Fans of Ubuntu should head on over and tread his interview with the new CEO of Canonical (psst, it's a woman!). But she's no outsider swooping in to take over Ubuntu Linux's corporate sponsor. She joined Canonical in June 2004, two months after previous CEO Mark Shuttleworth founded the company with a few programmers he recruited from the Debian Linux project on which Ubuntu is based.

Pink Floyd won its battle with EMI over royalties for online music sales and the unbundling of its albums. "Pink Floyd have won a High Court battle to stop their record label EMI selling individual songs online. The rock legends, signed to EMI since 1967, said their contract meant their albums could not be split up without their permission.

Huge Botnet Amputated, but Criminals Reconnect
And the award for unnecessary use of the word "amputated" in a tech headline goes to this story. Apparently saying the botnet was "cut off" just wasn't cool enough. The sudden takedown of an Internet provider thought to be helping spread one of the most promiscuous pieces of malicious software out there appears to have cut off criminals from potentially millions of personal computers under their control. But the victory was short-lived.

Facebook To Announce Plans To Take Over The Internet
According to the Business Insider, Facebook is planning to release a tool set for web developers that will allow any page on the internet to have all the features of a Facebook page. The Open Graph API will allow any page on the Web to have all the features of a Facebook Page – users will be able to become a Fan of the page, it will show up on that user's profile and in search results, and that page will be able to publish stories to the stream of its fans.

European Parliament Slams Digital Copyright Treaty
The European Parliament seems pretty upset over this whole deal, which makes you wonder how "secret" deals like this even happen in the first place? By a remarkable vote of 633 to 13, the Parliament rebuked European negotiators who have been drafting the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) in a series of confidential meetings around the globe. No version of the document has been disclosed by the participants, which include the United States, the European Commission, Japan, and Canada.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced today the launch of Microsoft's Elevate America initiative in the state of California. The Elevate America program, which recently celebrated its one-year anniversary, aims to provide technology training that prepares people for 21st-century jobs. "Technology can be a tremendous catalyst for economic growth and individual opportunity, but technology alone is not the answer," said Dan'l Lewin, corporate vice president of Strategic and Emerging Business Microsoft. According to Twitter's official bog, the company has begun filtering all links to "detect, intercept, and prevent the spread of bad links." Bad links? That depends on what you mean by "bad." Hell, if you go by that, Twitter could end up with NO links tomorrow! Today, we're launching a new service to protect users that strikes a major blow against phishing and other deceitful attacks. By routing all links submitted to Twitter through this new service, we can detect, intercept, and prevent the spread of bad links across all of Twitter. The Large Hadron Collider Shutting Down For A Year
The world is safe from disaster and DBBH (death by black hole) for at least another year while the Large Hadron Collider shuts down. Apparently design flaws have kept it from blowing up the planet so they want to rework things a bit. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) must close at the end of 2011 for up to a year to address design issues, according to an LHC director. Dr. Steve Myers told BBC News the faults will delay the machine reaching its full potential for two years. Comments
