MIT Scientists Turn Polyethylene Into Heatsink
If the researchers at MIT have their way, your next heatsink could be made of this. The new process causes the polymer to conduct heat very efficiently in just one direction, unlike metals, which conduct equally well in all directions. This may make the new material especially useful for applications where it is important to draw heat away from an object, such as a computer processor chip. Comments

Zero-Day Hole In Internet Explorer 6 and 7
Microsoft says that they have found a new vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6 and 7 that could allow remote code execution. The company is currently working on a fix but the advisory linked above does list a few workarounds for those affected. The vulnerability exists due to an invalid pointer reference being used within Internet Explorer. It is possible under certain conditions for the invalid pointer to be accessed after an object is deleted. In a specially-crafted attack, in attempting to access a freed object, Internet Explorer can be caused to allow remote code execution. Comments

Why Modern Video Game Armies Lack Women
This is something all of us have wondered about (at least once) while laying waste to virtual enemy troops / combatants. Where the hell are all the female troops in today's video games? When you actually put in female characters, typically you have to put in an entire new skeleton model and that entire new skeleton model adds an entire new level of animation and an entire new level of rigging. You basically double the amount of data and memory for soldiers that would need to go into your game. Comments

Game Devs Only Use PhysX For The Cash
According to this article, AMD's senior manager of developer relations says that game developers only use PhysX for the cash. Thanks to Edward Cabarles for the link. "They're not doing it because they want it; they're doing it because they're paid to do it. So we have a rather artificial situation at the moment where you see PhysX in games, but it isn't because the game developer wants it in there." In fact, Huddy reckons that no developers outside Epic genuinely wanted to implement GPU-accelerated PhysX in their game. Comments
