AMD begins shipment of 12-core Magny-Cours CPU
AMD has started revenue shipments of a limited quantity of Opteron 12-core server CPUs, with the launch coming on schedule - "later this quarter". The 12-core CPU, codenamed Magny-Cours after the French Formula 1 circuit, will fit into the elongated Socket G34. Essentially, Magny-Cours is an MCM version of six-core Lisbon, which itself is a refined version of the earlier six-core Istanbul CPU.

The Opteron 6000 series will service TDPs of 85W to 140W, with clock speeds between 1.70 GHz and 2.4 GHz. While the clock speeds may sound low - 2.4 GHz over a full 12 cores is some serious processing power.
