[Rumour] ATI Radeon HD 5830 to feature 1280 SP, release indefinite
ATI's Radeon HD 5000 series product line-up has an immense hole in terms of both price and performance, between the HD 5770 ($169) and the HD 5850 ($299). A Radeon HD 5830 to fill this potentially high demand space has been long rumoured and forthcoming. For some reason, AMD keeps holding back the HD 5830.
As expected, the HD 5830, based on Cypress LE, will have 2 fewer shader clusters than the HD 5850 - leaving it with 1280 SP and 64 TMU. Surprisingly, the core clock is expected to be 25 MHz higher than the HD 5850, and the memory the same speed, though it is unknown if is mated to the same 256-bit bus.

[Rumour] Intel to release three six-core Gulftown CPUs
Intel is set to release its new flagship, Core i7 980X 3.33 GHz six core monster, on March 16th. The MSRP is expected to be at least $999. Following on the 980X, Intel plans to release only two more Gulftown CPUs in its lifetime.
Coming in Q3 2010 is a more affordable and equally confusing branding of Core i7 970, which would normally indicate a Bloomfiled quad core. The i7 970 Gulftown is expected to be clocked at 3.2 GHz as a non-Extreme CPU with a locked multiplier. The i7 970 is expected to be priced at a minimum of $562, which is the lowest Gulftown CPUs are likely to retail for.

In the past, both an IGP and discrete GPU were present in select notebooks, offering both a boost in performance, as well as the ability to power down the discrete GPU to save power. However, switching between the GPUs was not as easy as it seemed, often involving irritating reboots.
