List of AMD 890GX Motherboards To Be Released
Starting next week, AMD will be releasing their first 800-Series chipset – the 890GX. There are a couple of motherboards waiting to be released. All 890GX motherboards will come with a new IGP that will come with a 700 MHz Core clock and will have full support for DirectX 10.1 and a TDP of 22 W. The Southbridge, SB850 (?) will include native support for SATA 6.0 Gbps. The new motherboards include:
ASUS M4A89GTD Pro / USB3
There will be two variants, the M4A89GTD Pro and M4A89GTD Pro USB3. The latter will be coming with support for USB 3. They come with a 10-phase CPU VRM and a 2-phase memory VRM. They’ll support up to 140W AM3 processors and will have four DDR3 slots. Expansion slots are plentiful as well, with two PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots (x8/x8 when in CrossFire), one PCI-E x1 and PCI-E x4 and two legacy PCI slots. There will be 8+2 channel audio, a Gigabit Ethernet, Firewire and connectivity ports including DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI.
BioStar TA890GXE
Next up is BioStar. Their motherboard comes with four DDR3 slots, eSATA, IEEE 1394, a Gigabit Ethernet port and 100% X.D.C Japanese solid capacitors. This motherboard will also incorporate three of BioStar’s new features: “G.P.U II – Green Power Utility”, “D.P.U – Digital Power Unit”, and “BIO-Remote Utility”. G.P.U II is an energy saving feature, that disables extra phases when not under heavy use. D.P.U is another phase controller that ensures each phase is controlled correctly and as efficiently as possible. BIO-Remote utility is a device that allows a Microsoft certified device to access Windows Media Centre and is aimed for Media PCs.
ECS A890GXM-A
Along comes ECS with a Black Series motherboard. This motherboard will come with the standard four DDR3 slots, supporting memory speeds of up to 1800 MHz, three PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots instead of the standard two, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and D-Sub, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. ECS have managed to cram an extra one or two connectors and PCI-E slots than its competitors.
Foxconn A9DA/S
Foxconn will also be joining in the party. There is nothing special about this board, coming with stock standard specifications. It comes with two DDR3 slots with support for memory speeds up to 1600 MHz. It will have two PCI-E 2.0 x16, two PCI-E 2.0 x1 and two PCI slots. Now, there will be two variations of this motherboard, the A9DA and the A9DA-S. The only difference between them is that the latter will have two IEEE1394a ports and one COM header.
Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H
Last but not least, we have Gigabyte's offering. This variant will come with support for USB 3. It will have once again, four DDR3 slots with support for memory speeds of up to 1866 MHz, but support for internal RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5, 10, and JBOD modes. Other than that we get two PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots (x8/x8 in CrossFire), three PCI-E x1, and two PCI slots.

Corsair Launches Reactor and Nova Series SSDs
Corsair announced two additions to its family of solid state drives today, in the shape of the Reactor and Nova Series products. The Reactor Series includes drives in capacities of 60GB and 120GB, with both making use of the new JMicron JMF612 controller, which incorporates 128MB of DDR2 cache memory for stutter-free performance. Corsair claims you can expect speeds of up to 250MB/s read and 170MB/s write on the 120GB model, with that write figure dropping to 110MB/s on the 60GB model. The Nova Series is built using the Indilinx Barefoot controller we have seen used in a number of drives from other manufacturers and comes in 128GB and 64GB capacities. You can expect speeds of up to 270MB/s read and 190MB/s write from the 128GB Nova and 270MB/s read and 130MB/s write from the 64GB model.
Both the Reactor and Nova Series drives fully support the Windows 7 TRIM command, which should mean drive performance doesn't degrade over time. They also both come backed with a two year limited warranty. As for pricing on the drives, Newegg currently lists them as follows:
It seems that the larger drives, with their higher write speeds and slightly lower cost per GB may be the ones to go for if your wallet can stretch that far, though the smaller models would still make for good operating system drives.

Accessory Makers Anxiously Await iPad
Makers of popular accessories for the iPhone and iPod are rushing to get products ready for the release of the iPad. Sales of accessories for current Apple products totaled nearly $4 billion last year. Cases seem to be one of the most popular accessories, as users want to protect the device they just shelled out hundreds of dollars for. Companies such as Griffin and Targus are already hard at work on basic accessories, while some companies want to wait and see how the iPad sells. Developing more expensive accessories will only make sense financially if there is a user base to purchase the items.

Cryptome Back Online
Cryptome, a website which publishes secret documents, was shut down earlier this week. This was caused by a complaint from Microsoft regarding the publishing of an internal document meant to aid law enforcement in filing subpoenas. Network Solutions, which provides hosting for Cryptome, immediately took down the website to prevent any action against them under the DMCA. Microsoft has since retracted its complaint, and no longer wants the document taken down. The site is now back up and all documents are once again available.
