Western Digital 1TB SATA 6.0Gbps Hard Drives Seen For Sale - WD1002FAEX
It looks like Western Digital is getting ready to announce SATA 6Gbps hard drives as a 1TB SATA 6.0Gbps hard drive with a part number of WD1002FAEX were spotted for sale in Japan by the site Akiba. We translated the article and found that the drive spins at 7200 RPM and has a massive 64MB cache. The maximum internal transfer rate is 126MB/s and the drive uses 6.8W of power during use and just 0.7W in a sleep state. The site states that the drive costs 10,000 yen, which is roughly $111.50. Activision has holiday quarter loss despite 'Call of Duty' release
Activision Blizzard widened its losses in the fourth quarter because of accounting changes and a hefty reduction of the value of its music games and other titles aimed at casual video game players. The maker of "Call of Duty" and "World of Warcraft" lost $286 million, or 23 cents a share, in the last three months of 2009. This compares with a loss of $72 million, or 5 cents a share, a year earlier.

The company also said it remains cautious about the economy, and its 2010 forecast fell below analyst expectations. However, its shares rose 4 percent in extended trading after Activision said it would buy back up to $1 billion of its stock and would pay its first dividend, 15 cents a share annually.

Apple iPad costs $229 to produce, says iSuppli
Apple Inc's forthcoming iPad tablet computer will cost as little as $229.35 for the company to produce, according to an estimate on Wednesday from research house iSuppli.

The group conducted what it called a "virtual teardown" of the iPad, since the device is not yet available and component suppliers have not been announced. Apple's iPad, which resembles a large iPhone and uses the same operating system, will go on sale as early as next month, as the company looks to define a new category of mobile devices. For the $499 iPad -- the lowest-cost model, which features 16 gigabytes of flash memory -- iSuppli estimated the total materials cost at $219.35, with a $10 manufacturing cost.

Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler Review
Today we look at the new flagship cooler from Noctua, the NH-D14. Noctua had a chore on their hands improving on the old NH-U12P design and performance. The NH-D14 has a total of six heatpipes and dual radiators equipped with dual fans! With specifications like this it is no wonder that the Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler is regarded as one of the premier CPU coolers on the market today, if not the best.

Noctua set out to improve on their previous design and they did, and it was a noticeable improvement. The NH-D14 is bigger and heavier than its predecessor, though. With both fans installed on the NH-D14 the cooler weighs in at a whopping 1.24kg so some may shy away from it just based on the weight, let alone its overall size, but there are those that will jump on this and not think twice about it. You can pick up a NH-D14 for $79.99 plus shipping. Now in a slow economy it may be hard to drop that much on a cooler. I can agree with that, but it is worth the money and falls into the old saying you get what you pay for. With the Noctua NH-D14 beating out 18 other coolers on our overclocked Intel Core i7 920 processor we have to give it the Legit Reviews Editor's Choice award!

Iran Blocks Google E-mail and Starts Own National E-Mail Program
Iran's telecommunications agency announced what it described as a permanent suspension of Google Inc.'s email services, saying a national email service for Iranian citizens would soon be rolled out. It wasn't clear late Wednesday what effect the order had on Gmail services in Iran, or even if Iran had implemented its new policy.
A Google spokesman said in a statement, "We have heard from users in Iran that they are having trouble accessing Gmail. We can confirm a sharp drop in traffic, and we have looked at our own networks and found that they are working properly. Whenever we encounter blocks in our services we try to resolve them as quickly as possibly because we strongly believe that people everywhere should have the ability to communicate freely online."

Trusted Platform Module Cryptography Chip Hacked
Christopher Tarnovsky, a computer security consultant from Vista, California, has found a way to hack into Ideazon's TPM, a device that is used in millions of computers to store encrypted data securely. It's a pretty in depth hardware hack, and it requires physical access to the device, so for most users this will be a non-issue, but for top level goverment agencies, it could cause a few problems if sensitive devices are lost or stolen.

Christopher revealed his hack during his presentation at Black Hat 2010. The method is wicked-hard, involving removal of the chips case and top layer [disolved using acid!], then tapping into a data bus to get at unencrypted data. The chip still has some tricks up its sleeve and includes firmware traps that keep a look out for this type of attack, shutting down if its detected. Infineon commented that they knew this was possible but regard it as a low threat due to the high skill level necessary for success.
