Teen Gets 15 Years for Facebook Blackmail
It's nice to see that the criminal justice system worked in this case. Imagine what this kid's prison friends list is going to look like? "Bubba sent you a friends request from the bottom bunkآ…accept or deny?" Stancl is accused of posing as a girl on Facebook and tricking more than 30 male classmates into sending him naked photos of themselves, then using the photos to blackmail them for sex. Comments

Who knew that Google's CEO was such a player? I like how the article just nonchalantly says that Schmidt has had plenty of other ladies and is "separated from his wife or in an open relationship." That's code for "we're guessing." Married Google chief executive Eric Schmidt has forced his mistress to remove her personal blog from the web, according to reports. Former Forbes journalist Kate Bohner's blog about her recovery from alcohol and drug addiction has been disabled after legal threats from Schmidt. Comments

Phishing Attack Hits Twitterآ…Again
Security firm Sophos says another phishing attack has hit Twitter. This makes the second time this week that Twitter users have been hit with phishing attacks. The attack earlier this week resulted in a spread of herbal Viagra spam. Messages asking "This you????" followed by a link are being sent via the system to unsuspecting users. If you click on the link you are taken to a fake Twitter login page, where hackers are just waiting for you to hand over your credentials. In fact, they can automatically post the phishing message from your account as soon as you hand over your details. Comments

It looks like another company is facing a class action lawsuit this week. The New York Times says that Yelp is accused of extortion and unfair business practices. What is this, something like the 4th class action suit in as many weeks? February must be "class action lawsuit" month or something. The suit claims that Yelp's employees "call businesses demanding monthly payments, in the guise of 'advertising contracts,' in exchange for removing or modifying negative reviews appearing on the Web site." 1M Fewer Music Download Buyers in '09
There were a million less people buying music online last year? Oh no!! Somebody quick, blame the pirates!!! It has to be the pirates because it certainly can't be crappy music, crappy prices or crappy ideas like this: "You got some maturity in the marketplace," Crupnick told the audience. "If I ran a record label, the first thing I would do is go out and hire a consumer promotion person from Kraft or Colgate. The consumer is saying they wanted to be promoted to and persuaded to come try this." For the record, I do like the "three songs for a buck" idea though. Comments
