AMD Radeon HD 5450 reviews
As we've already seen and discussed numerous times in the past few months, AMD are absolutely determined to make the most of their current advantage in terms of having working DirectX 11 hardware over NVIDIA, quickly transitioning their architecture from the high-end down to the mainstream, and now down towards the low-end market.آ It's those lowest price points that the company focuses on today with the launch of their Radeon HD 5450, which continues to boast DirectX 11 and Eyefinity support, but might well carve out more of a niche as a top-notch graphics board for Home Theatre PC builders.

Intel talks six-core processors, future prototypes
Want to know more about Intel's first six-core CPUs, codenamed "Gulftown"?آ Intel have now revealed a number of fascinating details at a recent press conference about the exact architecture and design of these processing behemoths.
All told, Westmere 6C packs 1.17 billion transistors and measures 240 mmآ². That's actually smaller physically than the 45-nm Bloomfield die from quad-core Core i7-900 processors, which spreads out 731 million transistors over 263 mmآ². Intel has no plans for a native quad-core 32-nm chip, as far as we know, but it does intend to release quad-core versions of Westmere 6C. Those products will simply have a couple of cores disabled.
The Tech Report has more on Gulftown, as well as information on other advances currently hidden away in Intel's labs.

Aliens vs Predator multi-player demo to be released tomorrow
Note to self: Buy new underwear.آ Multi-packs preferable.
The multiplayer demo will allow gamers the chance to play as all three species – the Colonial Marine, the Predator and the Alien – and pitch their skills against each other in Deathmatch mode on Refinery, one of the game’s multiplayer maps.
“The team at Rebellion has created a truly immersive multiplayer experience with three completely different and compelling playable species. We believe that Aliens vs Predator offers gamers a unique alternative to the current FPS multiplayer games on the market, and sets a precedent for the evolution of multiplayer gaming in the genre,†said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director of SEGA Europe.
Firing Squad have the press release delivering the good news in full.
EDIT: The PC multi-player demo is now ready and available for download on Steam.
In other Aliens vs Predator-related news, bit-tech have also published a hands-on preview of the game to give you a taste of their thoughts about this hotly anticipated title:
What that means for the Marine is that while the odds are still stacked against you, survival is something that most players can actually hope to reach as long as they are mindful of their enemy. In the old AVP it didn’t matter how slowly or carefully you crept through the levels, you’d still end up as a bloody smear eventually thanks to the mercilessly claustrophobic levels, but the new game isn’t quite as punishing. Or, rather, it’s a lot more fair in how it chooses to punish you. If you mess up then it’s likely your fault, not the games’.
Also available is an interview with developers of the game, the UK-based Rebellion and more specifically their CEO Jason Kingsley:
Jason: Oof. I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s not really a reboot, it’s just that…we know the type of game we did the first time around on the Jaguar and we know what we did with the PC version in 1999, which we just re-released on Steam. That last one especially was kind of a seminal game, really. It innovated in so many different ways, though it does look a bit old and creaky now because of today’s gee-whiz graphics. Obviously we were fans of all that – and a large number of the team were involved in the PC game, while many of those that didn’t wanted to work with us because of it. So, it was really that we didn’t want to throw away the good stuff. We wanted to build on it for a new game.
