YouTube announced today that it has partnered with the Sundance Film Festival to make life a little easier on independent filmmakers. Between the dates of January 22 (this Friday) and Sunday, January 31, the video sharing site will offer five popular films from the 2010 and 2009 festivals.

Microsoft to patch flaw responsible for Google, China fiasco
Microsoft announced today that a particularly nasty flaw in IE will be patched tomorrow. The flaw in question earned some fame recently as the culprit behind the China-based attack on Google -- a situation that is still boiling. Google claims that little data of importance was compromised as a result of the flaw and Microsoft noted that attacks only succeeded on machines running IE6.

Rambus to get $900 million from Samsung settlement
Lengthy court battles between Rambus and Samsung have concluded in a settlement -- the latter agreeing to pay Rambus a total of $900 million. The payment begins with $200 million up front, followed by $25 million paid every quarter for five years. The victory wasn't completely one-sided, with Samsung also signing a licensing agreement with Rambus for graphics and memory technologies.

Verizon disconnects repeat pirates from the Web
In addition to warning letters, Verizon spokeswoman Bobbi Henson admitted to CNET that the company has disconnected users who were caught repeatedly pirating media. Henson noted that Verizon reserved the right to discontinue service, and that the company doesn't impose bandwidth caps like Comcast.
