Gigabyte's AMD 890GX pixellized :: Posted by THRASHER2
Full of SATA 6.0Gbps ports

In addition to the ECS and Asus motherboards based on the same upcoming AMD chipset, Gigabyte's GA-890GPA-UD3H conveniently posed for a photo session.

Featuring the ATX form factor, the new AMD 890 based motherboard from Gigabyte supports AMD's AM3 processors, has four DDR3-1866+ memory slots two PCI-Express x16 slots for some CrossfireX fun and a Gigabyte's rather common blueish design.

The rest of the features include DirectX 10.1 integrated graphics with HDMI, DVI and D-Sub outputs, a total of eight SATA 6.0Gbps port and two USB 3.0 port, Gigabit Ethernet, integrated 7.1-channel audio, DualBIOS feature and Firewire.

Motherboards based on the AMD 890 chipset are expected to debut sometime in May 2010.

Club3D ships PCIe x1 HD 4350 :: Posted by THRASHER2
Drinks ION's milkshake

A couple of days ago Club3D started shipping a rather interesting low-profile Radeon HD 4350. We missed it, as we weren't paying close attention, but it turns out that this is a PCIe x1 card, which makes it nothing short of unique.

The card could make life a bit worse for Nvidia AIBs who have launched ION boards. It will allow nettop/HTPC enthusiasts to get discrete graphics at virtually the same cost as an ION board. Club3D's HD 4350 is reference clocked, so it packs an RV710 at 600MHz and it has 512MB of DDR2 memory clocked at 400MHz. Doesn't sound like much, but it's probably more than enough to outpace an ION.

AMD reports profit in Q4 09 :: Posted by THRASHER2
Intel's settlement made the whole of 09 profitable

AMD is back to profitability and this is mainly thanks to Intel's $1.25 billion settlement.

In the last quarter Q4 2009 AMD earned $1.52 per share on a total net income of $1.778 billion. This is naturally much better compared to Q4 2008 when AMD lost $1.424 billion or $2.34 dollars per share.

AMD posted $1.646 billion sales or a massive increase of 42 percent year-on-year, and up 18 percent from the last quarter. This is definitely more than people expected and we can probably blame the end of the year deals for that.

AMD's CPU division made $ 1,214 billion which is 14 percent up compared to Q3 2009 and 39 percent up compared to Q4 2008. However, in 2009 it made $4.131 billion, some nine percent less than in 2008.

Graphics also helped out as ATI made some $427 million in Q4, which is 40 percent up from Q3 2009, the quarter when ATI clearly could not ship enough of its chips and it is an impressive 58 percent more than in Q4 2008. In the whole of 2009 ATI made $1,206 billion, or four percent more than in 2008.

Intelآ’s settlement made AMD profitable in 2009 as it overall earned $304 million or $0.45 per share which is much better than $3,159 billion loss or $5.17 per share in 2008.

The announcement boosted AMDآ’s share 0.12 cent to $8.99, but we are quite sure than in Q1 2010 AMD wonآ’t have such good earnings.

Corsair officially the fastest memory :: Posted by THRASHER2
DDR3 modules clock 2333MHz

Corsair says that its new Dominator GTX memory has been tested as as the world's fastest Intel XMP-Certified product.

The modules have been clocked at 2333MHz, beating the 2000MHz record previously held by Corsair memory. According to Corsair every GTX module is hand-screened and tested to ensure maximum performance, marking it out clearly for overclockers looking to shoot for world record benchmark scores.

As well as being Intel-XMP certified at 2333MHz, Corsair guarantee them to work at up to 2400MHz with timings of 9-11-9-27 at 1.65V. They are not cheap of course. A single 2GB module will set you back $200.

GTX modules can only be bought from Corsair's online store and come equipped with the company's DHX+ heatsinks.

MSI's Big Bang Fuzion hits Newegg :: Posted by THRASHER2
Lucid Hydra motherboard for US $369.99

MSI's Big Bang Fuzion motherboard with Lucid Hydra 200 chip has shown its face at Newegg.com and is currently selling for US $369.99.

The MSI Big Bang Fuzion is the second MSI motherboard in the Big Bang series, but unlike the previously released MSI Big Bang Trinergy featuring the P55/NF200 combination for some triple-SLI fun, this one includes Lucid's Hydra 200 chip that allows graphics card mixing, between brands, manufacturers and even models.

The new Big Bang Fuzion was already previewed and despite the fact that drivers need to be ironed out, it does sound like a decent alternative to SLI/Crossfire, and the fact that you can mix both Nvidia and ATI cards sounds like a great thing.

According to our info, the driver performance issues are being ironed out and further version of the Hydra Engine should be fine and offer even more than the previewed 89 percent gain peak in dual-GPU mode.

It has also been listed in Europe with a price tag ranging from آ€320,23 to around آ€390, and although it is still not available we are quite sure that it will show up pretty soon.

ASRock overclocks Pentium G6950 on H55MPro :: Posted by THRASHER2
Simple BIOS update

ASRock, a company that tends to surprise with its level of innovation has issued a "Turbo 100" overclocking mode via a BIOS update on its H55MPro. This mode will apply when the aforementioned motherboard is paired with Intel's entry-level Pentium dual-core G6950 processor.

The simple BIOS update will overclock the CPU from default 2.8GHz to either 4.0GHz with Turbo 70 mode, or even to 4.2GHz for Turbo 100 mode. These two also overclock both the memory and the integrated graphics up to 1600MHz for memory and 767MHz for GPU at Turbo 100 and 1200MHz for memory and 700MHz for the GPU in Turbo 70 mode. Just for reference, in default mode, the memory works at 1066MHz while the GPU is set at 533MHz.

It all sounds pretty simple and we hope that ASRock will hopefully extend this feature to some other CPUs as well, as it raises the 3DMark 2006 score from 1313 to more reasonable 2639 for Turbo 100 and 2277 for Turbo 70. You can check out the 3DMark Vantage scores below.

ASRock had some innovative solutions over the past few years and from time to time they really manage to surprise us, and probably even surprise the engineers at other companies.
