More details on Asus' e-reader lineup :: Posted by THRASHER2
It will be a trio

Thanks to the guys over at RegHardware and Electricpig, there has been new info on Asus' future e-reader lineup, or to be precise Asus' trio lineup. The new info includes a full lineup of Asus' e-readers as well as some details about the most interesting one, the OLED equipped DR-570.

The guys from RegHardware managed to confirm that Asus is planning a total of three different e-readers and in addition to the DR-950 and DR-570, there will also be a DR-750, a 5.7-inch monochromatic version that should appeal to those that aren't planning to spend much on their e-book reader. The DR-750 is believed to have same features as the DR-570, except for the colour OLED screen of course.

The fresh details about the DR-570 went up at Electricpig.co.uk include a full specifications about the screen and battery as well as some neat info about the actual insides of the DR-570. The 5.7-inch OLED screen will have a 768x1024 resolution and a refresh rate of 0.03 seconds. The device will be equipped with 4GB of flash storage, but we guess that other versions might be coming as well. The DR-570 will also be equipped with 412MB of RAM memory and the entire device weighs around 200g.

The 122 hour battery life on a single charge has already been mentioned and according to these fresh informations, a 1530mAh battery is the culprit behind such endurance claims.

Pricing and availability dates are still unknown, although the grayscale DR-950 and DR-750 are expect quite sooner than the OLED DR-570 one.

Radeon 5830 to come on February 5th :: Posted by THRASHER2
The new date

It looks like that ATI has decided to launch Radeon HD 5830 a bit later than we belived and the new date has been pushed all the way to February 5th.

The possible price is $239 and even though it doesnآ’t sound very attractive, it is still much better than $299 pricetag on Radeon HD 5850 cards or $289.99 with the recent USA price drops.

The card will end up with DirectX 11 support and will sit on top of Radeon HD 4770 generation, performance wise. The 5770 sells for $155 for the 1GB version but it will end up significantly slower than 5830.

We donآ’t know how many shaders they will cut out of the original RV870 chip, but we are working on it.

Apple sends out invites for event :: Posted by THRASHER2
Something new to announce on January 27th

As we have previously reported, Apple has now sent invites out to various media outlets inviting them to an event/briefing to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on January 27th. While the invite only says, آ“Come see out latest creation,آ” our sources tell us that Apple will announce their long awaited tablet product at this time.

While the tablet product, which has become known as the iSlate to most these days, is likely to be the biggest announcement, whispers tell of a new touch screen iMac addition to also be announced. Despite all of the wishing, our sources seem to be in conflict over whether we will hear any announcements on the iPod or iPhone front, with most suggesting that there will be nothing new for those product lines to announce at this time.

With the iSlate to be the big focus of the event, we do find it unlikely that Apple will really announce much for any other product line at this event. Some buzz does seem to indicate that we should expect at least some third party software announcements at this event that will show off how to actually use the iSlate for something useful, and we hear that gaming and media will factor into what we might see. There is not much longer to wait for the iSlate to arrive and we have to say that we will be sorry to see all of this hype drawn to an end, as it did give us a lot to write about.

EVGA launches Haiti Relief Fund :: Posted by THRASHER2
$10,000 target

EVGA has set up a Haiti Relief Fund with the goal of collecting $10,000 for the quake stricken Caribbean nation, and as we're alway keen to support any sensible humanitarian drive, we urge you to take a look.

A week ago the poorest nation in the western hemisphere was struck by 7.0 earthquake. Loss of life was immense, with recent estimates exceeding 200,000 dead. Millions are homeless or injured and Haiti's capitol Port-au-Prince is in ruins. In other words - if you can, help.

EVGA will match community donations up to $5,000. However, EVGA hopes the community will manage to collect even more, so let's not let them down. We always keep saying gamers are good people, not a bunch of gun nuts and potential spree killers. Here's a chance to prove our point and do some good. Thank you all!

Intel ships three new-old CPUs :: Posted by THRASHER2
Celeron, Pentium and Core 2 Quad

Intel has started shipping three new CPUs, which really aren't that new, or exciting for that matter.

The Core 2 Quad 9500 is a no thrills quad core clocked at 2.83GHz. It will replace the 2.67GHz Q9400 and the price should end up the same, آ€149.

The Wolfdale based Pentium E6600 is basically a slightly faster incarnation of the old E6500 and it's clocked at 3.06GHz. It is already available in Germany for آ€75, which is not bad, but it's not great either, as AMD is shipping its Athlon II 620 quad-core at virtually the same price.

The E3400 is available for آ€46. It's clocked at 2.6GHz and like the E6600, it's based on the Wolfdale 1M core. Sounds like decent deal for office machines or undemanding consumers.

Although Intel's Core architecture is going from strength to strength, we will still see quite a few Socket 775 processors in the months to come, especially in the low end.

SATA 6.0Gbps and USB 3.0 support

MSI has officially announced its newest member of the P55-GD family, the P55-GD85. Although its quite similar to the rest of the GD lineup, the new P55-GD85 brings two important features that previous one missed, support for USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0Gbps. It supports Intel's LGA 1156 processors and features all the goodies like DrMOS and OCGenie that can be found on recently announced MSI motherboards.

Sparkle shows its Calibre Cuti nettop :: Posted by THRASHER2
Intel Atom 330 and ION

Looking a bit different than the Calibre Cuti n30 which was shown at last year's Computex show, Sparkle has announced a new version of its Calibre Cuti ION nettop.

The new one features pretty much the same specifications as the n30 showed at Computex, but it looks a bit different. It comes with Intel's Atom 330 dual-core CPU combined with Nvidia's ION platform. It can be equipped with up to 4GB of memory, 160 or 320GB hard drive (supports up to 500GB), has integrated Geforce 9400 graphics, courtesy of ION, Gigabit LAN, 802.11bgn WiFi, optional Bluetooth, 7.1-channel audio, six USB ports, and a card reader.

As far as the outputs are concerned, Calibre Cuti has it all covered with DVI and HDMI with support for 1080p reproduction, thanks to the Nvidia Geforce 9400 GPU. According to Sparkle, the new Calibre Cuti consumes 30W under full load and 14W in idle, while the noise level is around 26dBA under full load and 3dBA in stand-by.

The price or the availability date haven't been announced yet, but we must note that Calibre Cuti does look neat. It will be available in white or black colour options and the minimalistic and simple design always works best.

Here are some pictures of the new Calibre Cuti and we will keep an eye on it to make sure we spot it once it hits retail/e-tail.

Cooler Master Gladiator 600 Computer Case Review :: Posted by THRASHER2
"With the Gladiator 600 chassis, Cooler Master has a very nice addition to their mid range, mid tower product line. They've managed to incorporate a great looking exterior with good cooling and a functional interior for a cost of around $70 US. Getting a case to market with these features at this pricepoint is no mean feat, and involves some compromises, but I like what Cooler Master chose to compromise on to cut costs with this chassis."

Jetway NC93-330W-LF ITX Motherboard @ Pro-Clockers :: Posted by THRASHER2
Everything you have seen reviewed on Pro-Clockers lately has been about bigger, badder and ever-voracious power hungry PC equipment. It's our fault. Power is what most of us are looking for in a computer. This was even the case with laptops for a long time as well. We always looked for the most powerful laptop our money could afford. The birth of the net-top changed all that. No longer is the world looking to fork out $1000 for a desktop replacement or even a 15" dual core notebook. With the introduction of the netbook came the era of ITX based integrated motherboards with the Intel Atom processor. Our next review sample is based on this setup and we are ready to tackle nailing down its performance.
