ATI Radeon E4690 Mobile PCI Express module (MXM) Introduced
AMD today introduced the ATI Radeon E4690 Mobile PCI Express module (MXM) for the graphics-intensive embedded systems. The industry-standard MXM 3.0 specification for graphics subsystems calls for reduced power, improved cooling capability and a lower z-height, enabling designers to create smaller, more efficient embedded systems and speed time to market. The ATI Radeon E4690 MXM features more than triple the 3D graphics performance of previously available solutions with low CPU utilization and brilliant picture quality.1 With its massively parallel, programmable architecture, the ATI Radeon E4690 MXM is designed for compute intensive, embedded applications such as digital signage, image recognition, signal processing and surveillance, arcade and casino games, medical imaging, and more.

The ATI Radeon E4690 MXM features 512MB of on-board GDDR3 memory, 320 shader processors, a comprehensive set of display output options and adjustable system clocks for exacting power and performance requirements. As the industrys only embedded graphics chip to offer support for both Microsoft DirectX 10.1 and AMDs Unified Video Decoder 2 (UVD 2), the ATI Radeon E4690 MXM enables competitive advantages for AMDs embedded customers by providing outstanding graphics support coupled with high quality video playback performance.

MSI's Big Bang Fuzion and Trinergy Motherboards Available on Newegg - Lucid Hyrda 200 for $370
I just noticed that MSI's Big Bang Fuzion motherboard with the Lucid Hydra 200 chip is in-stock and available at Newegg.com for $369.99. he MSI Big Bang Trinergy motherboard doesn't have the Lucid Hydra 200 chip, but used the Intel P55 Chipset and an NVIDIA NF200 'bridge chip' for 'improved' multi-GPU performance. This board retails for $329.99 plus nearly $10 for shipping. If you want the motherboard that features Lucid's Hydra 200 chip that allows graphics card mixing between different brands, manufacturers and models then you will need to hand over $369.99 plus $10 for shipping. For that price you would expect a board with all the bells and whistles, but since the board has been in development for so long and has come to market late it is missing key features like USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps. If you are going to spend $380 on an Intel P55 motherboard you might as well get one with all the features. You can pick up a motherboard like the Gigabyte P55A-UD3 for $135 and run CrossFire and SLI plus have cutting edge features like USB 3.0 and SATA 6GBps. The $245 you saved makes us question the value of the these first generation Lucid Hydra 200 boards.

Through long-standing development and with much energy, MSI formed the state-of-the-art gaming line inspired by the mighty Big Bang. Unique and innovative, the all-new Big Bang series will deliver the shock and awe of unprecedented gaming experience and expand into its own collection of galaxies. This begins the new era of ultimate gaming machines. Powered by Hydra Engine, Big Bang Fuzion can offer the most flexible upgradability on 3D performance, allowing users to install cross-vender GPUs in a single system. The technology can perform scalable rendering to deliver near-linear gaming performance by load-balancing graphics processing tasks.

The HULC Robotic Exoskeleton To Get Fuel Cell For 72+ Hour Missions
Dismounted Soldiers often carry heavy combat loads that increase the stress on the body leading to potential injuries. With a HULC exoskeleton, these loads are transferred to the ground through powered titanium legs without loss of mobility. The HULC is a completely un-tethered, hydraulic-powered anthropomorphic exoskeleton that provides users with the ability to carry loads of up to 200 lbs for extended periods of time and over all terrains. Lockheed Martin recently announced that they have selected Protonex Technology Corporation to develop power supply concepts that will enable the HULC robotic exoskeleton to support 72+-hour extended missions. This is interesting news as the development of power solution technology like this could have many mainstream consumer uses.

Dismounted Soldiers often carry loads greater than 130 pounds, including electronics and numerous extra batteries needed to operate gear and complete 72+-hour operations in the field. The HULC, equipped with an extended mission power supply with recharge capability, would enable dismounted Soldiers on these missions to carry fewer batteries. Protonex brings significant expertise in developing and manufacturing compact, lightweight and high-performance fuel cell systems for portable power applications in the 100 to 1000-watt range. The companys fuel cell systems are designed to meet the needs of military, commercial and consumer customers for off-grid applications by providing customizable, stand-alone portable power solutions.

Koolance CPU-LN2 Rev2 Liquid Nitrogen Pot Review
Today we have the exclusive first look of the Koolance CPU-LN2 Rev 2. This is the second generation "DIY" processor evaporator pot for liquid nitrogen or dry ice cooling by Koolance. This pot has a nickel-plated solid copper cold plate that has a black acetal upper container. Read on if this pot does better than the original that we looked at in the summer of 2009!

Liquid nitrogen performance on the Koolance CPU-LN2 Rev2 Pot is so far improved that it is surprising the Rev1 and Rev2 came from the same company. The rather radical change in design is responsible for this excellent LN2 performance and with a few more tweaks will really fly with heavy loads. Intel's upcoming Gulftown hex-core processors have already been shown to run hotter than current Bloomfield quad-core processors but I feel the CPU-LN2 Rev2 will easily handle upcoming Intel six-core Gulftown processors.

January 22 News from Around the Web
Xigmatek Midgard Mid-Tower Chassis @ TweakTown and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!
"Xigmatek has gone the way of chassis design and building as a way to start to supply the end user the more completed package. With the manufacturing of cases, Xigmatek offers a total aftermarket line to go from components sitting in a cart online, to a complete build with matching or corresponding themes. Old Norse Legend and mythological names have been a trend from Xigmatek for some time now. The Thors Hammer, named after a God and his tool of might to the Bifrost graphics card cooler, named after the bridge that links Asgard with Midgard. It seems only fitting to take a name from a land that was the refuge for Thor and the rest of the known inhabited world at that time. It doesnt take that far of a leap to get the naming scheme of the Midgard chassis name."

AMD Posts Profit Thanks To the $1.25B Intel Payment
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. posted its first quarterly profit in three years because it got $1.25 billion in a legal settlement with its archrival. The world's No. 2 maker of computer microprocessors said Thursday it would have lost money were it not for the payment it received from Intel Corp. to squash a long-running antitrust battle. AMD also appeared to benefit from a lift in the overall computer market. Revenue was up 42 percent over last year, and unit sales of microprocessors and graphics chips grew, even though prices fell.

AMD said after the market closed Thursday that it made $1.2 billion, or $1.52 per share, in the period ended Dec. 26. In the same period last year, it lost $1.4 billion, or $2.36 per share. Excluding the settlement and other items, AMD lost $57 million, or 8 cents per share. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were expecting a loss of 18 cents per share, excluding items. AMD's revenue was $1.6 billion, a 42 percent improvement over the year-ago period. Analysts were expecting $1.5 billion. For the full year, AMD's net income was $304 million and revenue was $5.4 billion. In 2008, AMD had a net loss of $3.1 billion and revenue of $5.8 billion.
