AMD is back to profits thanks to Intel settlement
After years of losses, AMD has returned to profit in Q4 2009, when, thanks to the $1.25 billion received from Intel, it has reported a net income of $1.178 billion. Revenue in Q4 was $1.646 billion, up 18% sequentially and 42% compared to the same quarter of 2008.

Rambus wins crucial decision in Nvidia patent battle
A U.S. International Trade Commission judge has dealt a setback to Nvidia in a legal patent dispute with chip-maker Rambus. Judge Theodore Essex said that Nvidia is violating three patents owned by Rambus, while dismissing two other patents as invalid. Rambus Inc. is attempting to force Nvidia to patent royalties over technology in use in Nvidia graphics chips.

PlayStation 3 security cracked?
A hacker named George Hotz (alias geohot), responsible for several iPhone hacks, published an entry on his blog dated as the 22nd January 2010 which states that he managed to gain access to the entire system memory and the processor. This certainly doesn't mean that users will soon be able to run homebrew software on PS3, but it might be the first step after more than three years and two months. Thermaltake readies the new family of stylish HDD and SSD enclosures named SilverRiver II. These aluminum enclosures have 3.5-inch (ST0016 and ST0017) and 2.5-inch (ST0018) form factors, measure 195 x 125 x 70 mm and 136 x 79 x 17 mm, respectively, and support SATA 1.5 Gbps/3.0 Gbps drives. Sony Ericsson Vivaz brings 720p capture to US phones
After a premature reveal on Wednesday, Sony Ericsson today officially took the wraps from one of the first phones to provide HD video capture in a US-ready form. The Vivaz is now known to include North American 850MHz 3G and will let those on AT T, Rogers and others record 720p video they can then push to Picasa or YouTube. In a small tweak to Apple, Sony Ericsson also touts that its uploads will work in the background, although full 720p detail will need to go over Wi-Fi due to battery worries.
