NVIDIA Fermi Details
Fermi next generation GF100 GPU is not here yet. Nope, we do not have hardware. But NVIDIA has given us an in-depth look at the specifics behind the architecture as it relates to gaming. NVIDIA certainly remembered us gamers and the fact that we like lots and lots of polygons. LINK (http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/01/17/nvidias_fermi_gf100_facts_opinions) The first chip was a raster unit that featured around 1 million transistors, and it included a triangle setup engine. The second chip was a texture chip, and it also was around the 1 million transistor mark. These two chips ran at 50 MHz (though it was easy to overclock them to a blazing 57 MHz). This was simply gaming nirvana in 1996. Games such as Mechwarrior 2 showed off how good true 3D graphics could look, even at 640x480 by 16 bit graphics. LINK (http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=858) Many of you have likely already seen the demos, as videos of what we saw have already been on YouTube for a few days now. What you haven’t seen and what we’ll be focusing on today, is what we’ve learned about GF100 as a gaming GPU. We now know everything about what makes GF100 tick, and we’re going to share it all with you. LINK (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=372)
