
Symbian lays out mobile OS road map
Symbian Foundation, responsible for development of the Symbian mobile OS, is readying its Symbian^3 and Symbian^4 versions of the platform, with version 3 likely to be feature-complete next month, a Symbian blogger said this week.
The general releases of versions 3 and 4 are anticipated for the first quarter of this year and the end of 2010, respectively, Symbian representatives said on Friday afternoon. The OS is supported on mobile phones from such companies as Nokia, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson.

AMD to offer triple-core laptop processors
Advanced Micro Devices will put triple-core processors into laptops to fill a power and performance gap, the company said.
Laptops today contain either dual-core or quad-core processors, and offering a triple-core CPU could bring laptops that are faster than the dual-core chips but more power-efficient than quad-core processors, said Bob Grim, director of client product marketing, at an AMD event during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The chips will ship by the end of the first half.

Oracle critical patch update includes 24 fixes
Oracle on Tuesday will release a patch update that includes 24 security fixes for its database, application server, and other products.
Ten of the patches affect Oracle's database, and two of the vulnerabilities addressed can be remotely exploited over a network without the need for a username and password, Oracle said.
