Adobe Lashes Out At Apple For iPad's Refusal To Support Flash
We've covered Apple's forthcoming iPad with a pretty good level of detail, but one thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is Flash. Or, the lack thereof, we should say. Steve Jobs was adamant on stage during his iPad introduction that the browsing experience was best in class, but when we think about browsing, we think Flash. Adobe's Flash helps to push content from Hulu, a number of TV networks and it powers a multitude of sites on the web today.Apple's iPhone has never supported Flash, and existing owners

Dell Alienware Diana Team Continues M11x Tease Tour
A few weeks back, at this years 2010 CES show, we gave you a first hand look at the hot looking new 11-inch form-factor Dell Alienware M11x gaming notebook. At the time

Michael Dell Hanging Out On Street Corners with Mini 5 Tablet, No Watches Though
Michael Dell, it seems, likes to live with his upcoming products a bit before the company releases them to market. Apparently, the casually unsuspecting Dell CEO decided he'd show off his goods to a passing-by member of the TechCrunch team. And no it wasn't a Rolex knock off but perhaps something just as flashy. The Dell Mini 5, as he called it, is a 1GHz Snapdragon-driven MID (Mobile Internet Device) running the Android OS. It reportedly has a built-in 5MP camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

Adobe's Flash helps to push content from Hulu, a number of TV networks and it powers a multitude of sites on the web today.

Apple's iPhone has never supported Flash, and existing owners are none too happy about it. The only reason Apple gets a pass is that Mobile Safari is so stellar otherwise. In almost every non-Flash scenario, Mobile Safari beats out any other mobile web browser. But the iPad won't get that same pass. The iPad is tailor made to watch multimedia, particularly video. Does Apple really expect to excite people when all the iPad can do is watch YouTube HD clips? Doubtful.

Adobe has taken the necessary step of putting out a blog post scolding Apple for their refusal to adopt to one of the web's most critical technologies, and frankly, we couldn't agree more with their stance. Even in Jobs' demo of surfing the New York Times webpage, onlookers spotted a "No Flash Plug-in Installed" error logo. Embarrassing. It's really amazing that Apple refuses to bring Flash support to the iPad, particularly since that A4 CPU has so much power that is going unused.

Here's the exact statement from Adobe, and yes, it's a doozy.

It looks like Apple is continuing to impose restrictions on theirdevices that limit both content publishers and consumers. Unlike manyother ebook readers using the ePub file format, consumers will not beable to access ePub content with Apple's DRM technology on devices madeby other manufacturers. آ And without Flash support, iPad users will notbe able to access the full range of web content, including over 70% ofgames and 75% of video on the web.

If I want to use the iPad to connect to Disney, Hulu, Miniclip, Farmville, ESPN, Kongregate, or JibJab -- not to mention the millions of other sites on the web -- I'll be out of luck.

Adobe and more than 50 of our partners in the Open Screen Projectare working to enable developers and content publishers to deliver toany device, so that consumers have open access to their favoriteinteractive media, content, and applications across platform, regardless of the device that people choose to use.

They're like Gangstas but geekier... Who's the man in the middle with his hands on the prize baby?!

Let's zoom in... The rest of this crowd is far too rambunctious for their ground straps.آ I mean, someone is going to get hurt if they gave that wafer to the wrong guy (it's got to be worth a few pesos)... but who could it be?

Wait just a dog-gone minute... We recognize that suave and debonair look... That "get-back" stare...آ that "he must be stopped!" sense of urgency.آ We know who it is and we're not giving him up.آ He's one of us... You tell us.آ We're not sayin'...آ Nope, our lips are sealed.

Nintendo's Iwata Says iPad Delivered "No Surprises"
In our analysis of the iPad, we essentially came to the conclusion that it was a large iPod touch. Funny, because that's exactly the same conclusion that one of the most powerful individuals in the tech industry came to. It's unusual for executives from rival companies to come right out in the media and speak up with their feelings about a given product, but Nintendo's own Satoru Iwata noted that the iPad "was a bigger iPod touch" and that it delivered "no surprises."

Ouch. That's a pretty big sting from a pretty big face in the gaming/tech world, but it seems to mimic the feelings felt elsewhere in the world. We have yet to find anyone that seems super enthused about the iPad, at least in its current form. Being able to use just a single app at a time is a real deal-breaker, but we get the feeling that Apple could open it up to handle more in time. After all, the A4 CPU is pretty powerful. We're still curious as to why Apple didn't just go ahead and enable this if that is indeed the master plan, but the company may move forward with said plans quicker than expected if the negative press continues to pour in.

This kind of negativity is foreign for Apple. Ever since the introduction of the iPhone, the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS, the company has largely experienced nothing but praise. Even its quarterly results have been stunning, and many companies have bowed to Apple's ability to generate revenue in the recession. The company is obviously facing an uphill battle with the iPad; it seems as if consumers may not actually need this product, and it's up to Apple to convince them. That'll be pretty tough when talking to Mr. Nintendo, it seems.

Close-up With Dell's Alienware M11X Mini Gaming Notebook
A few weeks back, at this years 2010 CES show, we gave you a first hand look at the hot looking new 11-inch form-factorآ Dell Alienware M11x gaming notebook.آ This machine almost defies all sense of logic in that it sports a such a petite, stylish and sleak frame with a CULV processor under its hood butآ with theآ graphics prowess of NVIDIA's GeForce GT 335M mobileآ GPU turning up the horsepower, it'sآ got enough game toآ bring the hurt to a horde full of baddies.آ At the time weآ brought you this coverage,آ Dell's Marc Dianaآ gave you a quick tour of the product and its capabilities butآ little did we know, there was a husband and wife dynamic-duo atآ helm, thumping their new bad-boy around for theآ press.آ Today, we tripped across Dell's Katie Diana (yep, Marc's wife is in on the action too)آ taking the M11x out for a test spin in one of our favorite time-waster first person shooters, Left 4 Dead 2.آ Katie, show the world how to take down a Boomer will ya hon?

With a traditional Alienware backlit keyboard, aggressive Alienware M series (which we think stands for Muscle Car) stylings, this machine just looks too hot too handle.آ Of course we plan to handle it plenty in the weeks ahead and will tell you all about it when that time comes.

Random things I do not understand

Ok so random topic I am wondering about. Feel free to post random things you don't understand.

My topic of the night is light bulbs, specifically CFLs. I really like the white light they give off compared to incandescent bulbs. I have moved all the bulbs in my house to CFLs. The thing I don't understand is why some are more yellow than others.

My bathroom has 2 switches. Above the mirror there are 3 14 watt bulbs that light up when the light switch is cut on. Above the shower is another 20 watt bulb that switches on when you cut the fan on.

What I wanna know is why the 3 bulbs give off a yellow light and the single bulb gives off a nice white light. This is socket independent. I wanna know how to avoid the yellow bulbs and find the white bulbs, or even why some are more yellow than others.

Really random, but if anyone knows I figure someone here would.

Fring and iCall Support 3G VOIP and Video Calls On iPhone

While AT&T long ago announced it was removing any restrictions on iPhone VOIP application on their network, Apple didn't follow suit. With the release of the latest, iPhone / iPad / iPod touch SDK, that restriction has been removed, and VOIP companies are jumping into the 3G pool.آ iCall was the first VOIP company to announce 3G support with their VOIP app. In fact, iCall announced its 3G capability the same day as the iPad announcement, when itآ also released the new SDK.آ

On Thursday, Fring announced the same functionality was now available via its app. In fact, it sounds like all they had was a server-side block on the functionality, as their blog post announcing 3G support notes no new Fring app is required. Fring works with Skype, and allows MSN Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, SIP, Twitter, Yahoo! and AIM messaging.آ Also, with Fring you can bring up a video call as well, which you have to admit is just plain cool and extremely convenient to reach out to loved ones.

آ

Speaking of Skype, in December they said they had a 3G-enabled version ready, but because of Apple's restrictions, they never submitted it. Now users are (rightfully) dinging the company in its forums as Fring and iCall have beaten it out the gate. One would have expected Skype to be first, or at least fast, honestly.

The Mini 5 is a 5-inch tablet PC that is rumored to be selling for the hefty sum of over $1K but that's before contract with a 3G carrier of some flavor.آ Please God, give AT&T a break...آ Michael was kind enough to tell the probing TechCrunch reporter that the device would be available in "a couple of months".آ Based on the fact that there's a snowy scene in the background, we can say that generally means we're looking a spring thaw launch time frame.
